...or at least make it remember my settings!

I have a really annoying problem. In whatever folder I designate as My Pictures, the default view is always thumbnails no matter what I do to try and make it something else.

Is there a way to force it to use a different view for this folder or disable Thumbnail view entirely?

I remember, the dam.n annoing image viewer M$ bloated into XP crap could be disabled by this:

regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

So, maybe there is a way to kill Thumbnails or change the default behaviour that force opening the thumbnail view of the "My Pictures" directory AND all it's subdirs? (I wanted and managed the My Pictures to be root of my D: drive, so imagine what happen when...)

BTW, in few occasions the Thumbnail view even crashed on me (and I'm not alone, look: http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/33620 ), silently closing the application with all my work/text lost. That is "just great" and just another reasons why I f*cking hate this XP crap!

Please help! :help: :help: :help:

PS. the crashing get MUCH better when I disabled this:

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
It disable the DLL that create Thumbnails out of movie files :o

Of course I tried select a different default view for a folder and then apply it to all folders (Tools->Folder Options->View->Folder Views->Apply to All Folders), yet it won't work. Any time I open Save/Load window from IE (but also NotepadEx and other apps, including eMailers and so on) it turn back to default Thumbnails view, much to my endless flustration with it...

1) Open My Computer
2) Tools > Folder Options
3) Click View tab
4) Check 'Do not cache Thumbnails' & 'Remember each folder's view setting'
5) OK

I'm sorry, but if you read the end of my post, you know, that I already tried that. Make the "View by list" default view of my folders, works when I opening these as windows, but do NOT work when you are in IE and you try save any picture, or upload one, or using Notepad, or emailer The Bat, or any other program like Photoshop...

The open/load/save window opening simply with default list as large icons, eg. thumbnails. I see no regular way to stop that, so, try the solution you suggested for yourself and if work, then I consider re-registering the files I unregister and changing the options, if it work.
But I bet you report failure... :nono:

Ah, I didn't read the end of your post. I thought the end of your post was gonna be like HELP ME, so that's why I didn't read... my bad. :P

Anyways, it looks like the registry is corrupted. :(

Heheh, okay, nothing bad happend. And yep, HELP! :p: ;)
And yep, I asked even on other forums, because I starting to feel that modification of dll file is need. I could do it, but I have no idea what to modify - sure something about the list view parameters, but beat me witch ones...

And since XP save any settings - except this one. And my friends having the same problems, so do you, I bet.

Maybe my limited english caused some misunderstanding there, so, I use pictures now.

Okay, let's speak the pictures, shall we? On safe/open requester I got always this (the size is already tweaked):

http://www.slibe.com/fullimage/7ee7a7ad-NOT_wanted_view_.gif (http://www.slibe.com)

While I desperately want to see by default THIS:

http://www.slibe.com/fullimage/4faf5e40-wanted_view_gif.gif (http://www.slibe.com)

Now, since there is not likely to be any option to alter that behaviour (or it is?), maybe we shall modify the comdlg32.dll file to get the wanted result?

Anyone is getting any ideas? :p:

This pose a huge problem, because if I set the D: as My Pictures, then all applications default view of D: dir and any subfolders withing it (!!!) in useless and terribly flustrating Thumbnail view, witch no-one seems to know how to change! (that way the change stick... of course)

So, I think it is necessary to - either modify the comdlg32.dll file to disable the Thumbnail view activation OR modify the IE, forcing it to open other folder for saving pictures that the My Pictures directory.

There is simply no other way (I fear) that get open/save dialog for pictures from IE w/o thumbnails and to open it exactly in directory, where I want it to open.

Like I say - it could be the default "My Pictures" as long, as we figure out how to modify the comdlg32.dll file.

Or we could figure out how to edit the IE default pictures saving directory to other one that "My Pictures" - eg. like the wanted D:\\ one... ;)
