btw Source (It's spelled Source with a 'c') is a horrible game and is only (somewhat) successful becuase it has got the Counter-Strike name on it.

1.3 was the last good CS. 1.4 was a joke that lasted what, 3 weeks, then they rushed 1.5 out. 1.6 was stupid IMO. I remember the exploits with the gay shield. And even when the "fixed" it, its still a gay shield that sucks way more than an awp or auto sniper in the hands of annoying noobs.

Anyone who thinks steam is still terrible, is wrong. While there are some bugs here and there, it sure isn't anywhere near as awful from where it was 4 years ago.

Source is actually a fun game and a big improvement in graphics from the original. Some of the maps with water looks insane, it looks quite real (w/ x1900xt 256mb). The only gripes I have with it are the inlfux of bots and the character design/motion. They resemble more like action figures/cartoons from original. They also have an awkward way of moving around which can be improved upon.

I think most ppl dont like playing cs/css because it is such a popular game and they usually get rightfully pwned.:slapass:

Thats why i said ISNT. Not WASNT. Steam always WAS a POS when it was first relesed. Source sucked fairly hard as a beta. Like you said, after maturing, its actually quite nice now. Source is the same way. Im sure 1.6 is fine now too, but why play it, its ugly IMO.

12 man is way too small for a public server. A good server will have 24 slots, a private match server would be set to a 10 man. Source maps are the same in size for regular counter strike and condition zero.



Also, be sure to make the server a 100 tic :D

I think a Half-Life 2 key will give you access to source, but I don't think source gives you 1.6 access.

I play both 1.6 and source, and i'd be happy with either of them being the game we play.

Personally, I like source more. It's easier, and prettier, and it just all around gives me a better experience. 1.6 is harder, and better for those who like challenges.

Though in the end, in terms of gameplay, 1.6 sadly does > Source.

Pretty graphics will never beat top-notch gameplay.

Though to be honest, I don't think i'll ever feel like i'm putting my hardware to good use while playing 1.6... i've got 2 gigs of ram, a 3200+ amd64 and a geforce7600GT...

I have to confirm what others have been saying 1.6 takes more skill than source. After a few days of playing source I was consistently getting rediculously better scores than I was getting in 1.6. Even though I have played 1.6 for many years.

Both games have their good points, I don't get the ppl who say that one is uber and one is doodoo. They are almost the same game, except that source has enhanced graphics and easier gameplay imo.

When playing source I have been sticking to "Gun Game" servers lately. That mod is quite fun.

The purpose of this thread wasn't to figure out if you like source. It's to try and get a team going for XS. If you're not interested then instead of taking the time to thread crap, go play some 1.6 and be happy! Please have some respect for the thread starter! Right now there's nobody in it, and a good reason why. There is no map rotation, there should be at least 4 bots in the server(if less than 4 people), it should be running some form of Mani mod and it isn't. It also needs map voting which is included with mani mod anyways I think. Need lots of custom maps, like iceworld, deagle, aim maps etc.

Everytime I look nobody is in there. :( That's why bots are important because it encourages people to connect.

Yea right. My school has hundreds of new dells, but I would personally be surprised if I found anything better than an onboard intel gpu controller. Besides, they have user restrictions. :(

Sad to hear but why did you get a source server? Most of the guys on here (from what I can tell) prefer 1.6

Ill have a E6300 and an Intel P965 laying around soon. It would make a fine 1.6 server and if we can get RAM and other donations toward I can get uncapped fiber.

most used one is rcon (standard)

Other popular Admin plugins are AMX Admin, Manni, and Admin.exe

I use AMX Admin on mine as it is really simple.

Mani admin is easy to use once you get all the permissions and Steam ID's and all that. I've used it on my own server, as well as on a few others. It's pretty straight forward if you take a little bit of time to learn it.
