I'm using a capiliary tube that already has a filter/drier attached to it. I purchased another filter/drier to provide extra protection. Should I put my filter/drier before the capiliary tube (with integrated filter/drier) or before the compressor? I'm thinking before the compressor as the filter will catch debris and protect the compressor. It will also provide a little protection against liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor.
The filter/drier is an Emerson EK-802S.

dryers need to between the output of the condenser and captube. I think your wasting time by putting an extra. You don't need 2, and if done correctly (very difficult) you don't absolutely HAVE to have one on a condensing unit.

Agree with gclg2000, you DON`T need an extra filter/dryier, one is more than you need :p

there are specific filters for the suction line
if the one you bought is one of these you can use it, otherwise you cant

Blaster is correct, just 1 before the cape is usually significant. I f you feel there might be debrie in the evap you may add a suction line filter.
Just note liquid line and suction line filters are different and can not be interchanged. Also they must be installed in the correct direction.
They do make bi-directional filters that are used on heat pumps, these are needed to to the fact heat pumps use reversing valves.

What do you think of strainers before the capillary and a suction line filter drier?

What's the difference? Is it just less restriction or is there more to it? (Keep in mind that the filter/drier I bought can handle systems up to about 3 tons while the system I'm working with is a small fraction of a ton.)

One works with and was designed to deal with liquid, while one deals with gas?

Be careful buying filters/dryers off ebay, if someone broke the seal by pulling out the plugs, its probably worthless for moisture removal.
