So the compressor i am talking about is Līunite hermetique CAE4440Y HR R134A which have been ripped out from a somewhat big professional fridge.
Canīt give you all the info about the model cus i have only a poor picture taken with a mobile phone. So it uses R134A (and capable of R12, R22, R404A and prolly R290?) and if i got it correct reading some french site it should be ~12cm3.
I could get the compressor with a nice about 25x35x15cm rad and a 240v fan + a timer.
Can you say if i should even try to do something from this or if you know a little more about this unit? Could it be any good for a chiller or even a SS?

I think that's a 3/8cv, high temps compressor...

All the info i have got is by googling. And yes itīs a Medium/High Temperature Refrigeration unit. So what does it basically mean? 3/8cv?-> 3/8hp?
It really bugs me that i donīt know the power ratings and hp of the compressor :(

Yes, 3/8cv is 3/8hp.
For medium-high temps, it means that is capable of working on, let's say, -15šC up.

it means the ambient temp where it is capable of working? or what it is capable of in normal ambient temp? im a little confused cus im relatively new to all this compressor stuff.

The compressor si a 4440 Tecumeh teh 4440 means that it will remove 4000 btu of heat the last two digits in that number are the frist two in teh btu rating the first is the family of compressro and teh secontd is the total number of digits int eh BTU rating. So if it was a 5542 it would be 42,000 btu.
teh full US equivelent number is AEA4440YXA that is a 134A High starting tourque medium temp R 134A compressor commonly used in 1 door commercial reachins and 6 foot pizza prep tables as well as 3 keg beer coolers. It is suitable for low temp R404/507 application with a suction pressure of 0 to 2 inches at a -45C evaporator in a phase change application. This will give you the proper cooling for the compressor motor and keep the compressor shell operating in the range acceptable for 24.7 use.

Here is a picture of the unit http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=27092006050qp4.jpg
And here is the exact datasheet of the thingy: http://www.modkjol.no/wh/mk/MKDokume.nsf/43f94b7c487bea46c125690c0041418d/d805505e933d136ac125696f004284d0/$FILE/213GS-F.pdf#search=%22CAE4440Y%22

I use that compressor on a water chiller to cool off a number of motherboards running folding at home.
CAE4440Y is 1/3 horsepower, capacity at +5degC 852w
CAE4440YHR, this is the condensing unit number, specs for the unit with 32degC ambient evaporating at +15C>1212w +7.2C>969w 0C>768w -5C >638w -10C>519w -15C>410w
The compressors a little noisey, not the compressor I'd choose to build into a pc case.

yes all tecumseh compressors are quite noisy

Is it a "can´t be in the same room" noisy or just noisy? Can i sit like two meters away from it?

I'd be inclined to say..., "just noisy"..

use foam to insulate the noise :D

Mine is pretty quiet. The fan is as loud or louder than the compressor. But then my Tecumseh is older, so maybe it is just the new ones that are noisy.

Not true blaster, i Have a nice reciprocating 1/5hp thats silent when running and starts wtih the sound with a yate loon.

Not really, Mostly noise is a function of a number of problems.. Old and worn compressors tend to be noisy, compressors that are not Pulled to a 200 micron vacume may exhibit noise problems, pulling a vacuum to 200 microns is esseciential to the continued operation of your system a small system with a used compressor and old oil will take up to 20 hours on a vacuum to achieve 200 microns due to contamianents in teh oil and system. If you are running a medium temp compressor at higher temps and large values of superheat you discharge temperatures will be high and the oil temps will also be high thinning the oil and making the compressor loud, air and other noncondensibles in the system will make the compressor loud also.. Using an inapproiate metering device ( Capillary tubing longer tha 10 to 12 feet ) and running the system in a vacuum of 4 to 11 inches will also contribute to noise, a lot of systems get run at these levels to achieve colder temperatures this is hard on the compressors and causes poor oil flow and loud hammering of teh components in a compressor.
EDIT ( an oil change sometime quiets a system down )

im talking about brand new compressors chilly
all i've come across (mostly on ice making machines) are quite noisy compared to danfoss compressors
of course, im comparing noise in terms of what ppl are used to in prommy like systems, for the normal refrigeration applications this sound problem doesnt apply

I used this compressor in a water chiller. It is grunty but at 55dB it was unacceptable loud. It sits awaiting some other use in the garage at the moment.

I have an embraco 7.8cc compressor I use for basic units that runs at less than 28 DB full load and when I use teh Radio shack 120V 120mm fan the whold system is still under 30 db I can't hear it run from 4 feet but I also amd damn near deaf I can barley hear a train wreck from 10 feet!

I have one of this compressor and find a bit louder than a Embraco FFI on my DD.
The Embraco is really quiet.
