Seems to be taking a while. I would like to get this PSU instead of the Corsair HX620 (which has received nothing but highly positive reviews).

Showed up on Newegg today.

I was surprised to find the M12 700 watt model at Fry's today in Atlanta, and the price they had on the boxes is $189.99, but the price on the shelf showed it retailing for $199.99. So I picked one up and paid $201.xx after taxes... though they're not on their website yet.

$189? That's cheaper than online price right now. I might have to check it out.

The batman, DirectCanada has the 520HX for $120CDN (The 620HX for $160CDN) ... in contrast, the Seasonic M12 500W is $140 USD !!!
So expect the 700W model to be $250++ CDN.

For any logical reason?

I'm impressed, even the 500w has quad rails. If only these PSUs were cheaper I would jump.

Actually, like the Antec Trio and Corsair, there is no "quad rails" or "three rails" or anything. Just one big rail.
I'm not quite sure why Seasonic keeps doing this. :( Do they think no one will notice?

The M12 700 I picked up yesterday is going back, its defective... causes my whole system to become unstable, even at stock speeds. When booting, the psu sounds like a cricket at night in the summer, hopefully it didn't damage any of my components though... didn't run it for more than 10 minutes tops. Pretty disappointed though since my S12 600 (in use now) has been running flawlessly. Not sure yet if I'm going to exchange it for another M12, or just get a refund.

Is the Corsair better than the M12?

Well the M12 is too new to tell yet, but beating the Corsair will be hard.

I don't like the M12's cooling aesthetics (love the Corsair's)...but its a good psu.

The grade of components is the same. You have more output on a 700W M12 than you do a Corsair 620W, but even 620W is overkill for most people. ;)

You obviously have not seen the new nvidia G80 .. it needs 500w just to turn the fan

....says the man with the 1100CFM fan :p:
Yeah, 620W is overkill now....for most, but that's about to change really quickly if you want the best 3D, thankfully the best CPUs aren't power hogs.

I don't buy that until I see it. I've heard a lot of rumors, but having a GPU pull that much juice is just stupid and if it's true than the government needs to go after the engineers at nVidia and ATI because of their misplaced priorities.
0_o ... the Corsair 620W has a max output of 770W...And with that calculation method M12 is 840W PSU. Outputs of different voltages aren't added together for total.

Maybe unless they used cryogenic cooling or big peltier. (and then again peltier would need huge cooling)
But hey, maybe they'll bundle this kind cooler with card for keeping room cool.

Hey Jonny, quick question... would a PSU that sounded like crickets when the PC is booting, then quieting down once in Windows, but still buzzing a bit harm any components? (Ran at most 10 minutes) I don't notice any problems just an 80mm fan that was also new sometimes getting louder, then going back to normal, but the fan is also making a pulsating type noise so its probably warped I'm guessing.

You know... just a few minutes ago someone sent me a picture of a GeForce 8800 (G80) and the fan pretty much looked like this.

Like a constant buzzing, but sounding like a cricket at night in the summer, or whatever bug makes those sounds lol. Oh and the buzz was louder when the computer was turned on, till it reaches XP loading screen. But still buzzed, but not as loudly, any nvm though, components don't seem hurt, plus taking back the M12 tonight... if I can get off my lazy butt.

Oh, buzzing? Then it's probably just a transformer buzzing.
Really, whether or not it's "dangerous" depends on the PSU and the system. Could be crossloaded, could be overloaded, could be just loose windings.

Okay, I'm now on my 2nd M12 700watt, when I took it back, I forgot the power cord so I had to exchange it for another. Thought okay, I'd give them another chance anyway since my S12 is fine, but this M12 is buzzing too, I don't notice any instability, voltages are fine, and when I had the abit uguru util. running and tried loading cpuz it didn't freeze the computer like it did with the 1st M12 I had. Plus I'm not getting error messages like I did with the 1st. Since two of these M12's have made the same buzzing sound, would you think that its normal for this model? Or is it crossloaded, overloaded, or just ended up with loose windings like jonnyguru mentioned. Also my S12 600 watt doesn't emit any type of buzzing sound.
Okay, seasonic's telling me to turn it off and unplug it... lol that can't be good. Off to put back the S12.
You know... just a few minutes ago someone sent me a picture of a GeForce 8800 (G80) and the fan pretty much looked like this. :eek:Now I didn't see three phase power plug anywhere in it...
Maybe their next generation cards will have such 5x10cm three phase power plug with pins rated for 40A.
Like a constant buzzing, but sounding like a cricket at night in the summer, or whatever bug makes those sounds lol.Bush cricket/katydid/long-horned grasshopper is that one which makes that damn loud noise...
And those even climb to trees so they can keep sound directly on other side of window when you're trying to sleep!
