Great Work bazx !!!! I Applaud you on your safety measures
Every cascade Must have there components installed to operate safely.
Don't forget as each of you design and build your own rigs.you are actually build prototypes or experimental models,so install a pressure limit control, pressure gauge and most important,if things start to go really wrong a PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE.
Work Safe: Walt
Ps: To Mods with bazx's permission This picture should be added to the stickies under cascades as minimum safety requirements. Be sure that the components names are also there.

good luck bazx
very nice insulation of hx
A very very good idea. I'll use it next time
Are you going to use capillary tube on the 2nd stage? What length?

I am really looking forward to seeing the finished artical - The case and everything looks superb baz mate, a real work of art.
Wheels for the base would set it off a treat (probs 5 required lol)

this is gonna be a nice cascade bazx.
i like the enclosure on the plate hX.:toast:
Thanks guys
Did a bit more today, it is getting real tight in here
I have tried to keep most of the hot, warm and UN insulated pipe work down
In the middle to bottom of the unit as I hope to have the most air flow there when finished
Just got the shut down switch to go in, the suction returns pipe work
And controller

Don't get em started Pete FFS (it's an ideal opportunity for me to get my own back here and yet I find myself taking the higher ground) :stick: :fact: :stop:
@ Highlander - nearly wet meself reading that for all the right reasons:D
@ Baz - sorry for off-topic-ness, back on topic - gotta be one of the most beautiful cascades, ever - I can see you are using a Vapo mount - what Evap is it?
johann
10-10-2006, 01:49 AM
This is not a vapo mount, its from that company called Cooler express. The same guys who made that 3 head unit that was on here a while back.
BTW nice cascade Baz
I have a new rig now!
Mav belive you havent yours yet ether!!! I wont be getting anyhting of mione for at leats 6 weeks now and now i really can not be bothered...my trust has fallen big time!
I've got a few new contacts which do stuff in a week to two weeks and there work is far better sadly!
So were on a par Mav for the time being! But in all honestly does it really matter?
If i want a cascaade i can have one, SS, chileld water, water or std air! Ently up too me
Getting close now
Just gassed up the first stage with R507 and have the second stage leak testing
With some nitrogen
Next job up is the evap and line set and gas second stage with R23

Bazx m8,i truly like your style and dedication, awesome build.I just know you will make this more than most could ever hope for in a cascade. It will be powerful, attractive, compact, reliable and most importantly, safe. If i ever get to finish mine,i will look to you for inspiration.

@ thicky and fatty thanks guys
well got my first temps now hx is holding very well and i am very pleased with it
sits around -43
got the evap to -97 unloaded so still some work to be done there
i am sure it is just cap length it should have been 2.6m of 0.031 but i must have left it longer
fix that tomorrow now:D

Is that r23 or r1150? Did you try loaded temps, if not try it for load first than you change captube. When you will issulate all tubes you will see -100°c for sure.On your old cascade you used costum HX, where do you have better temps, here onPlate HX or on Custom HX?

hehe you are right luke
@ld r23 for this one but will try r1150 next week
the plate hx is around the same as costom hx but 1/3 the size and it pulls down much faster

Man what a beauty - great work - excellent layout and attenton to detail Baz mate - early indicators are its a performer too.
Load temps is what its all about though surely (he says not really understanding it all).
I get all in a tiz about all the gases that are available to use - looking forward to the results Baz mate.

Txv probe should be positioned at 10:30 or 1:30 on tube.
Txv will respond better if probe and tube are insulated.

how thick is the base of that evap.
Is it hard to brase without getting any solder in the ring part?

MMmMmmmMmm... i like the brazing job :)
nice, like the way ya did the evap:toast:

Is it hard to brase without getting any solder in the ring part?
with the mount i am using i have to get the cap as close to the suction return as pos
as for the brazing it depends how long the brazing rod is
ie for fine work i use a shorter length as it will shake less well some times:D
i will check with ld for the base thickness
@jin thanks

That brazed evap is excellent. What did you use to clean it?
I see on the picture of your purging setup, you have the N2 bottle connected to the capillary tube which is fed into the bottom of the evap. But what is the other part of capillary tube there for?

Holding the evap in place I wonder?
Brettbeck

Holding the evap in place I wonder?
Could be, but I would think that captube wouldn't be strong enough for doing that. I may be wrong though.
n00b 0f l337
10-27-2006, 02:55 PM
It doesnt look like captube to me though. Maybe to just push some more purging gas into the evap?
Brettbeck
10-27-2006, 04:31 PM
Yea possibly :) .
I want that Oxy-Acetylene brazing setup hehe :D . I used one last week to braze my first unit up, and they just put out some insane heat!
Only problem is cost really, I was told the portapaks are really expensive.
the other wire is just to balance the evap and hold the cap tube out of the way
while brazing
Oxy-Acetylene is by far the best for this job but as others have shown not essential
i use 3x different nozzles for brazing these are BOC sizes
number 1 for fine work and most of the pipes
number 3 was used to braze up the tes2 1/2 to the hx
number 10 for the evap 3 could also have done this but not as quick
if you were using Oxy-Acetylene for the first time i would say use the number 3 for the evap
