View Full Version : wattage of heat
Hi,
Just wondering how i would work out the wattage of heat my processor is creating? is there a general formula for it or somehting i could sue to help me work it out ?
Thanks,
Craig

There you go

cheers therecka and Welcome to the Xtreme!
Mine works out @ 72.20719645293314, my cooler is rated up to 100watts of heat, its a coole rrated to XP2200+s so 1.8GHz
Thanks,
Craig
All wattages given below are assuming the chip is at its stock speed and stock voltage.

and while im at it, because i was interested in the difference between the two cores i quickly threw this together in Excel :D

Mine calculates out to 135watts, in sisoft it say 127watts so they are pretty close.
Overclocked Watts = Default Watts * (Overclocked Mhz \ Default Mhz) * (Overclocked Vcore \ Default Vcore)².
lol, dont think i wil ldo it on my calculator, jsu tdo it on the net, easier :D

HOLY COW!!!
My 2.5 ghz 2100+ puts out over 150 watts! That is way more the sisoft says it is.

sisoft only gives an estimate doesnt it? i remember a friend saying to me that 3dmark told him his chip will oc another GHz, fat chance on his hardware, but the proggies can only estimate and al lhardware is different

Hehe well my 1800+@2.1ghz 2.2V radiates 150W allso :p
The formula gives a pretty correct MAX value of the wattage. But a processor consists of differnt parts and the chip probley never would be so loaded, that the chip draw the max teoretical value of wattage. But its probley pretty close. Its very hard to say exactly how much power it draws, becuse allso the resistans in the chip will be a little different depending on the temperature. But the forumla do.
penti, its not the wattage it draws but the wattage of heat it outputs....well, thats what i asked for and i presume thats what that page does :D

Shows my xp2100@2650mhz@1.85V as 127.13 Watts while SiSoft estimates 99W :)

well all the power the chip draws will have to go somewhere and it does that as heat. The calculator is for how much wattage it draws and thats how much heat it produces. So

It says 160 watts for me at 2500mhz 2.2v... lol
Highest stable I have gone is 2253 2.0v. for 123 watts... sweet.

Hehe, well u never got near thos 160Watts if u just did a screenshot in windows ;)
BTW i have runned at 150Watts stable myself =) a good watercooling setup can handle about that. An realy good setup can handle even more.
prometia can do up to 200watts, new version will do 260watts apparently ;) shame they are so ewxpensive! :)

Naw the new prometeia can move 200W(according to chip-com) the old one maybe 180W if u go over that the prommy should crasch =)

Thing with sisoft is it guesses ur Wattage by using current temps and speed. It don't take voltage into account!
New prommy looks amazing tho, should be good for getting a few more mhz outta those CPU's!

Cheers Penti, i know little about prometia so thanks for clearing that up :D
