View Full Version : Confusing X1900XT overclocking

I'm using Ati Tray Tools for the FPS counter and Fan settings but can't overclock my card with it(Atitool beta's also don't cut it for that matter)
So i'm using Rivatuner to overclock but was wondering if i set clocks in Rivatuner
and then start ATT to scan for artifacts it reports 2d clocks(500-600).
Does anybody know if the clocks are set in Rivatuner the clocks that are really SET?
So i can scan for artifacts at the clocks Rivatuner displays while ATT keeps thinking it's 500core-600mem,just showing it wrong.
(b.t.w:Anybody knows if X1900XT 256mb causes more problems with Atitool and
Omega 6.8 then regular X1900XT?)
Thx
(edit:Sorry but i found that in Rivatuners hardwaremonitoring clocks were indeed 2d....
too bad AT beta13 just won't run properly and beta14 gives arties at stock 3d clocks....guess i have to run 3d benchies to check stability)
Any tips are welcome

Atitool artifact scanner is known to have bugs in combination of x1k series. Running your favorite game or 3dmark should do it :)

Yeah i'm getting more and more bugs here......think it's the Omega drivers.
So far i have set frequencies in rivatuner to find they didn't stick in 3d mode, overclocker reported 1.8v in 2d mode:stick: ,then tried WinClk and those seemed to stickbut then i found out that core frequency got to 550 not higher ?!?!?!while memory seemed to sttick to what i'd set it.
Also checked with Ati services on/off e.t.c.
Of to test some other drivers........it used to be so simple:comp10:

3D clocks are only enabled for full screen 3D applications. Anything running in windowed mode will only run at 500/600. Run a game and the clocks should go up.

Well, for me it were the Omega drivers that caused the problem.
Using Cat 6.8 and WinClk and i can set 3Dclocks that will stick.
Any other combination is just sucky atm.

When you overclock 2D clocks, you overclock the 2D clocks :)

Clearly....that part didn't confuse me.....:stick:
Now to find a way to set voltages(in 3dmode)

I have heard you can just install the ATi Tools and tweak the card from there without using CCC/Cat. Anyone try this?
I'm about to get the 256mb version also.

Ok....so now i HAD ! Atitool beta 16 working.
Core was going nicely but when i set memory from 721 to 730 id black screened on me.
After reboot that funny "Found new hardware wizard" comes up
"Found new hardware"......Atitool !:hitself:
So if anyone can come up with some drivers for Atitool..........
Anyway seems the mem on the 256 mb X1900XT versions isn't much, will check what chips are on it later.
voltages can be set from atitool...
is this what you were asking or if there's a different method because atitool isnt working very good atm?

Yeah,i had voltages set with Atitool beta 16 but that one only works once right after instalation.
After reboot my comp thinks Atitool is hardware !?

use ati tool 0.25 beta 14 instead :)

Taht one didn't work from the start...
I geuss i need to do a clean windows install to get rid of some problems...
Well my "new hardware" Atitool is "installed and ready to use"
Had mem up to 784 with WinClk and checked for Artis with Atitool, problem before was i set voltages manually to 2.084(like X1900XT 512 standard setting)
But it should be 1.840 with this 256 mb version.:nono:

I am having the same problem atm, ATi tray tools reads my x1900xt 256mb as 500 core and 594 mem.
Can I just up the freq.'s here to what the stock speeds should be. or do I have to do something else?

what you are reading is the 2d speeds kimbo. When the card goes into 3D mode the clocks ramp up to what they should be.

Thanks cantankerous. I had heard this before and forgot that it changes automatically.
However, their still lies a problem because when I run 3Dmark05 I get under a 6k score! Something is not right, because I got a better score with my 7600GT. Any advice?
Also, when I'm running 3Dmark05 the startup load screen (with the blue progress bar) is blurry, I have never seen this b4 and it doesnt seem normal.

hi kimbo the blurry start screen is due to the mipmap level being set to performance in catalyst control panel

Thanks GLENBOY, so I guess I should set that back to how it was. I still don;t understand why my bench was so low. Anyone experienced this?

(You did use Drivercleaner ??)
Ati tray tools won't do anything good with X1XXX cards atm..
You can try the latest Atitools or WinClk,Rivatuner..
To make sure your speeds change from 2d to 3d you can disable the 2 Ati services.

Yes I did use the DriverCleaner and took all the previous drivers out. I am using CCC 6.9. I'll probably test out ATiTools after that.
Tommorow I will be setting a up a new system on a clean hard drive so hopefully I'll have better results then.
At stock settings my 3Dmark06 score was just shy of 5k with a X2 3800 @ 2.4ghz. With 3Dmark05 I am getting just over 6k, I had better scores with my 7600GT. So something is not right.
Also, my fps in cs:source is 40-30 and will sometimes even drop into the 20's. This is a brand new Sapphire X1900XT 256MB from newegg.
Thanks for the help.
EDIT: koosjebram said he was having good results with cat 6.8 so may try that.
