View Full Version : Dual Boot Pain

I wanted to run a dual boot of Vista RC1 and XP Pro. Here is what i did:

-Used Partition Magic to cut my C drive in half and create a new "V" drive for Vista
-Rebooted let PM do its thing, V drive is all good
-Installed Vista on the V drive

Vista will boot up fine and even give me a boot choice, but only if the Vista DVD is in the drive. If the Vista DVD is not in the drive it will go straight to XP. It seems no matter what trick i do it refuses to give me a damn option unless i have the Vista DVD in the drive...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...

Thanks
-Budwise

UPDATE: Just figured out that if i put the HD as the first boot in the bios that it wont ask me for the choice either. I dunno wtf is the problem...

Well at least I'm not the only one with this issue.

well this might work:
try right clicking my computer. then on the left hit advanced settings.
go to the advanced tab and under system startup and recovery click "settings"
make sure vista is selected in the box at the top and that the time to select os's during startup (not in this pic because the dropdown box is covering it) is a reasonable value (mine's at 5; try 10 seconds just to be sure)
