I will use a 2nd HD for storage so I don't care about storage, but is there any performance difference that I would even notice with a 74gb Raptor compared to a 150gb? I have 2 x 200gb maxtor sata's to sell for a raptor, I'm just trying to get the best value. Thanks for input.

150gb is 10% or less (sometimes 0) faster than new 74gig raptors.

The performance difference is minimal considering the new 74Gb raptors have 16mb cache, NCQ, and a few other tweaks

Actually a few benchies show the WD740ADFD's beating out the 150's in almost every category. Not by much, but faster nonetheless.

What about the new Western Digital 36GB drive with 16MB cache, NCQ, ect. It is faster than the 150 also?

He's talking about this one, if any:

Not sure if the 36 has NCQ or not...

Just confirmed the 36GB version DOES have NCQ. Could be a nice drive to get.

When StorageReview tested the Raptor 150, it was 21 % faster in their "High-End Drivemark 2006" and considerably faster on the other tests as well.

Could you link some of the tests you've read, cuz now you got me intrigued.

I dont know if you noticed but the 74GB ADFD is not on the list in storagereview. They have the older 74GB ones FLC etc.. There was a review with all of the ADFD and older Raptors out there showing comparison between NCQ on/off but I cant remember where. Remember the 150 ADFD came out first then came the 74GB version which improve it a little more. At the time the 36ADFD was not out so I cant comment on that. I'll see if I can find it. But the 74GB ADFD results were a little faster.

Edit: Found it. (site is not in english but you can click through all the test)
