Is it present in Device Manager? If so, check drive letter assignment. There may be a conflict. I often get this due to conflicts with mapped network drives, memory card readers, virtual DVD/CD etc.

ive alredy checked... nope
bios detects it as i said before, but xp doesnt see it
also, just to add, when i touch the back of the hd, it BURNS
its pretty hot... id guess roughly 60-55c...
man... if its the heat, that would be a huge annoyance, but i ran western digitals data lifeguard tools and it was fine, no errors or block corruption at all... im confused... i hope i dont have to reformat xp... but now that my games are gone i dont have much to do...

I don't know if it is just WD drives, but I have had three drives quit on me in the last year.

They are working fine, then just not there, they spin up at boot, BIOS sees them, but windows says no one is home, then not long after they stop spiing up, and just keep resetting, it starts to spinup and stops, and jsut keeps doing it.

Have you tried different ports? What about your BIOS settings, AHCI enabled... that sort of thing (not familiar with your board/bios).

I think 60c is about the limit for most drives - surprised your diagnostic didn't show up anything unusual.

I don't suppose you have a spare 'puter to try it in? Take it to a mate and try it in their machine?

Check, refit, replace cables?

btw, IDE, SATA, SCSI?

Have you played with jumper settings recently? Check those.

You should use partitioning software like Partition Magic.Best is to download this package of system software, burn it and then boot and use some of the programs to see if there is any error with the partition table,or just is it detecting the hdds or not.Now there is the link for you,I do not know how to make a link like click HERE::D

1. Double check your jumper settings, make sure you have correctly set your Master and Slave drives.
2. Change the IDE cable.

What has happened since it was last working? Retrace your steps and advise.

Try Partition Magic as suggested by Fixt00l.

What about Partition Magic?Leave only one HDD and see if PM detects it.Do that for the both of your HDDs separately.
