can't open files after recovery !!

i recovered my files after norton ghost screwed my HDD
now their sizes are ok
but they don't wanna open
i have .xls and .doc files
they don't wanna open

what's the problem !
and also i wanna mention that they were created with a different version of office
i have office 2003 sp2

Well it could defenitely be problem with office version... what does it say when it cannot open them?
