x1650pro or wait for low end DX10?

Im currently running the system in my sig below, with my cpu @ 2.35ghz. I have found recently that the 6600GT is very sluggish, and with all these much faster, cheap, "low end" cards popping up Ive decided its time for an upgrade. I know the x1650pro is going to be released Sept. 16th. So I can get one of those pretty soon. As for the DX10 cards, does anyone know when the lower end ones are going to be released?

if you can hold out until november, either get a 8600 something or get an x1800XT for the same price as the x1650 now. pricing predictions tentative of course

7300GT or 7600GS with GDDR3 mem will be good choice

x1650pro is a rebadged x1600xt. I doubt that midrange dx10 cards will be out in november, based on G80 or R600. Those will probably use a new core, and appear 4-6 months later.

a lot of reviews are saying G80 will be out in octeber/november(like wikipedia) and that r600 will be out xmas time.

you have to remember, it's been a year and a half since nvidia came out with a truely new card, and about the same for ATI(ATi had to put off x1k for a few months because of manufacturing issues though)


again, ther performance diference ebtween the two x1650pro and the 6600GT just isn't enouigh to justify gettting a new card. wait for DX10 cards. way i see it nvia's cards will kick straigh out and ATis should be VERY competative when they are out despite the 20% performance hit in non-unified shader games, and even mroe competative in games optimized for it(like aything ported form the xbox 360).

I guess I can hold out until November and if there still arent any midrange dx10 cards, ill pickup a 7300GT or something in that range.

using a unified shader architecture is thought to reduce the performance by about 20% in games which aren't optimized for it. this will only affect R600 as nVidia didn't take the plunge fully with the G80. in game soptimized for it, the performance boost is quite large though. I think R600 will be powerful enough to make by even with that small decreese...

again diference between the 6600GT and the x1600 are for the most part minimal unless you really can't hold out.. ehh just turn AA off i swear...

I wouldn't wait for DX10. It will be Vista only (unless Bill decided to change this while I wasn't looking) and you don't seem to won't to shell out too much cash.
