THE ALMIGHTY VOLE has decided that guitarist Robert Fripp’s work on the opening tune for Vista is so good, it will be compulsory and won't be able to be switched off.

Now, would all the hackers out there, please, get to it!

And Pinnacle, you better comment these important news! :toast:

They expect us to pay $300+ for an OS and not be able to turn a sound off? I have to see this one to believe it.

This is absolutely retarded... I hope it isn't true.

This is The Inq reporting the same story twice within a week again.

Read the original article they wrote as it's more accurate.

As the original blog entry said, which hasn't been editted or followed-up on, they still don't know if it will be mandatory, as they are listening to feedback on the sitch. At the very least it will likely be able to be changed or diabled through the registry.

Turned off as in unable to remove the sound file. I'm sure you can change it to silent. :)

Are you joking ? :)

It is from the_INQ, by default it is another hardcore BS that might catch noobz atention. Why should we treat that BS as news, and why are they important?

Only the eventual truth is to indicate whether or not something is 'BS'. Without it, nothing is certain. Okay, maybe The Inq kinda takes advantage of this, but hey.

Well the INQ isn't the original source so that makes it a lot more credible. The bit-tech article on this was less bais.

Its not the point that you cant hear it, the point is they did it and you CANT change it... Thats the point.

I absolutely hate this mindset. That's not fixing the problem, that's going out of your way to avoid it. Problem is, Vista costs $300+, but you won't even be able to have the ability to remove the startup sound file?

To me, this is just another way of having something forced down our throats. Vista is bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: to begin with right now, so this is just making things worse.

You will see, Microsoft will have it so finely tuned, that when you turn your speakers back on, you will hear the music u were doing your best to avoid. :)

like its that hard to turn your speakers on AFTER startup??? :slap:

it's not about the sound itself, it's about the fact that ms forbids the customer to change the startup sound.
that would be a regression in the customers discretionary.
