(Specs in sig)

Alright, so I decided to use a old harddrive from my last system to use on the new one (has linux on it). Got everything hooked up today, put in the XP CD, loaded, I then realized that I had to go change the memory voltage in the bios, so I exited, went and did that, XP cd would boot, inspect my system, and black screen me. This was normal, I think it's because it's the XP Upgrade CD. Anyways, so I put in my Windows 98 CD (to format it), boots up after a few tries, then gives me an error of not being able to find the files and shoots me into DOS. I've tried formatting with fdisk, but it makes me restart. I cannot format this disk now to save my life. Any ideas/floopy boots that'll format this HDD? Thanks

EDIT: Could of swore I was in the Storage & Memory section! Move please?

i've had problems with pre-existing installations of other OS's preventing you from installing a new one, i downloaded seagate's disk utility (search for it on their site) that boots from a floppy and allows you to format your hard drive (as well as some other things) but that does it directly, and was helpful to me in the fact that it wiped my hard drive clean so i could install new stuff on it
