I am putting together a fairly kick-   system ( see sig), and I want a good video card, but don't want to spend a lot with DX-10 right around the corner. The Sapphire X1900XT is available at Newegg for $316, and it is well reviewed, and seems to be the best deal out there that does not involve a MIR. Should I pull the trigger? Or will the X1900 series continue to fall in price with the introduction of the X1950?

I just got one too, I am pretty happy with it. The fan noise at 100% is really insane though. If you intend to run at some insane overclock all the time you should look into the silent cards or a third party cooler, it's really a lawnmower, not a video card.
I had issues with the Catalyst Control Center overclocking tool, it just crashed my machine with 6.7 drivers. I upgraded to 6.8, and didn't install Catalyst this time and am using ATI Tool .24 Beta 14 for overclocking. The newer beta 15 is less stable than 14 for me...

I'm going to water cool the thing, so the stock HSF is coming off as soon as I verify the card is not DOA.

The X1900XTX is going to be a discontinued model after the introduction of the X1950XTX. The X1900XT is going to go down to an MSRP of $280. Wait just a little bit longer and you can save around $20~$30.

Any idea how soon? I am going to be leak testing within a few days, and I need to verify my mb is not doa before replacing the NB cooler, so my need is somewhat urgent. Unfortunately, I don't have a pci-e video card laying around the house to just throw in there to see if it POSTs. If my savings are only going to be $20-30, I would rather have it sooner so I don't have to delay my whole project.

I don't think they will drop more in price, just ordered a sapphire x1900xtx, though the x1950xtx is also available at that store, the price is not going to drop much more these months. They are already cheaper as 7900GTX, so why would they drop more?

I'm on the notification list from Newegg so that if they get the Connect 3d 1900XT back in stock I can buy one at $224 ($100 rebate). It buys me time.

With the introduction of the 1950xtx - look for a possible price drop on the 7900GTX's and the 7950GX2's. I'd like to see the GX2 on sale somewhere for $400. :D

To be honest I'm not entirely happy with my x1900xt, it's not the 2x performance upgrade I expected coming from a 6800gs .. that and installing it effectively meant installing a hair dryer inside my computer :P
I think the thing that really gets me is that there isn't much OC headroom at all without watercooling or some serious (ie: extremely loud) CFM on air. I'm still trying to figure out if the upgrade from my 6800gs was worth $250. Call me crazy but I'm tempted to say no, send it back, wait for the 7900gs and then OC the hell out of it.

Don't know what to tell ya. Sorry you had such a bad experience, but an X1900XT kills a 6800GS, and the upcoming 7900GS, heck it killed the 7800GT's in SLI I had simply because the minimum frame rates were higher. Plus, vsync works better with one GPU.
@keldererik, what store is that X1950XTX available at?

I went ahead and got the ATI branded X1900XTX at MWave for $359+shipping. For the extra few bucks, and to get ATI brand, I thought it was worth it. Thanks for the help!

No. It does offer some impressive results, but when you have an overclocked X1900XT and an overclocked 7900GT, the difference is obvious. An overclocked 7900GT against a stock X1900XT is a smaller gap, but the difference is still obvious.
