Memorex has started selling double-sided miniature recordable DVD-R discs. The discs can store 1.4 GB per side for a total of 2.4 GB per disc. Each disc is coated with Memorex's "DuraLayer" film that protects the data against dust and scratches.

Memorex is currently selling the double-sided mini DVD-Rs in packages of five for $20.

I like the idea but the price needs to drop to $1 apiece or less

These have been around for quite a while (granted not memorex) with both single and double-sided being around $1 for generic or around $2 for the scratch guard. Considering regular dvd pricing the only use of these is really for camcorders.

Sure, generic brands, but it can't be any worse than Memorex.

should be sweet for gamecube backups, 2 games on 1 disc.
