Can I run 4 SATA drives in RAID 0 together on the gigabyte 965 DS3?

Bump?

Does this really need to even be answered? Look at the specs of the board...
And I quote from Newegg:
Storage Devices
PATA 1 x ATA100 up to 2 Devices
SATA 3Gb/s 6
SATA RAID RAID 0/1
Additional RAID Controller GIGABYTE SATA2 Chip

hey way to flame for no reason....
i couldn't find anywhere on newegg, or gigabytes site that explained how many channels are supported in a single array. now this may be common knowledge to some, it won't be for someone who isn't familiar with onboard raid chipsets.
both reinvented and sneaky pointed out there were 6 sata ports, but failed to make note you can't span an array across those 6 ports. yes you'll be able to strip an array accross 4 ports. and then the additional 2. so you would be able to have two raid array's, 1 that was 4xRAID0 and 1 that 2xRAID1 or RAID0.
actually, no, with the DS3 board you can only use 2 sata drives in raid 0 or 1 on the Gigabyte/JMicron ports (purple), the Intel ICH8 ports are SATA only

yea, the "purple" sata ports would be the ones i was referring to when i said you could have a 2xRAID1 or 2xRAID0. the "orange" ports are the ones where you could have your 4xRAID0 array.
no, i've got one (DS3), the orange ports cannot be configured to RAID mode

then why are there two raid controllers?
there is only one RAID controller, the Gigabyte/JMicron one.
because the DS3 is a budget/value board, the ICH8 options have been limited slightly, no RAID options are present, no support for the Intel Matrix RAID

ahh, i see that now. that sucks. i didn't realize the southbridge didn't have RAID capability.
ok, so then you can only have 2xRAID1 or 2xRAID0 on the purple ports. ...as Pyr0 said :p

Which fact really pissed me off when I went to install my new DS3 rig. I've liked using the Intel RAID controllers and am not happy that I have to use that JMicron for my RAID array. I wish I had known this before buying the board - I'd have done something else. That said - it is a pretty good board.
This does make the first few uninformed responses look pretty bad BTW. :slapass:

Thanks for answering my question guys.
Sneaky and Reinvented, Its pretty funny that you've proven yourselves to not only be a$$holes, but not know what you're talking about.
Does anyone know of a good and fast RAID card that will allow me to run 4 SATA RAID 0?

well, i wouldn't go that far... but their responses in this case were definatly incorrect, and inappropriate :slap:

I also have the DS3: You can only use the Gigabyte ports for RAID. This is the first time I've used RAID, but these are the results I get w/ the JMicron controller and 2x 74GB ADFD raptors:

Indeed only the purple connectors can run RAID. I have 2x80GB SATA II drives on the JMicron controller and tehy preform well.
There are a handfull of RAID cards that you can use. However, I do not recommend using a PCI RAID card. Must be PCI-E in order to not clog up the PCI bus.
I've used this card and it's decent.

You can run 4 drives in raid but only using software raid :) Convert disks to dynamic and format partitions as raid. Linux as well

eww, software raid.
better off spending the extra $150 on a hardware raid card.

i am running software raid 0 with 4 X 320 and it runs good.. better than 2 X raid0 on the purple...
