I just heard a thousand dreams just get stepped on ;)

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/11651/Crytek-Next-Gen-Consoles-Are-Too-Weak-for-Crysis/

Speaking at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Bernd Diemer, senior game designer of Crytek, explained that next-generation consoles don’t offer enough computational power to run Crysis, German publication Heise reported.

Although Crysis will support both current and the next version of DirectX, the developer claims that only DirectX 10 allows the game to run as it was intended by the developers because the next-generation DirectX API, which will ship along Windows Vista, allows more effects and more objects to be drawn on the screen with a smaller computational cost for the hardware.

Diemer explained that “next generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 do not offer the sufficient power” to assure the quality of gameplay Crytek demand for Crysis.

Crytek reiterated at GC 06 that currently, Crysis in only in development for Windows. We haven’t lost hope that we’ll eventually see an Xbox 360 version of this first-person shooter.

Well it should be plenty obvious that niether system will be able to keep up with DirectX 10 and Core 2 Duo (or faster processors) once more games like Crysis start using them.

Wii/X360/PS3 are all just toys.
A PC is a real gaming machine.

im shure wel see Crytek games on the consoles (atleast the xbox360 and PS3).

Specialy witht he capabilities Crytek has it would be foolish to make no console ports. Its a to big part of the gaming market.

And costs 10 times more than a console :p:
I mean high-end platform.

not really....

Most PS3/360 games are $60 and rumored to be $70. Most PC versions of the exact same games are $40 or $50. After a year if you buy several games it would even out. Not to mention PS3 accessories such as headsets, controllers, etc are a total rip (and so are they on 360).

And one other fact...it wont require an entire new computer to play Crysis in DX10 only an upgrade for a DX10 graphics card. Sure that alone will cost the same as a PS3....but hey....upgradability for the win.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but neither can most computers now, we'll all have to buy DX10 cards to run it too...

You can build a PC for roughly $1500 that'll stomp the consoles.

PS3 = $600
Good TV to handle ps3(1080p) = $2000+...

Soooooo, which one's more expensive again?

you dont.
ul only have to buy a Dx10 card to use the dx10 stuff in the game.
u can also play the game with a dx9 card

btw about the price of them xbox360 and ps3 games.
from pre-orders im taking it that the Wii games will be 50 euro.

You can run it on a consol too, just "not as intended".

Just pointing out that the road goes both ways..

No, they stated it cannot run on consoles DX9 or DX10 regardless. The "as intended" comment was a sidenote they added in to talk about the DX10 version.

if u have a g80, ur essentially a generation ahead of all next gen consoles, so this news isnt too surprising. considering that cryisis was made for gpu's of that ilk

I am sure you will see a dumbed down verison of Crysis for consoles, but it won't really be the same and will probably be released a year or so after Crysis comes out for PCs. Remember how they made Far Cry Instincts for the Xbox? It'll be the same this time around.

the Farcry games on the Xbox looked horrible but the hardware inside it had its limits.
But did those games sell? yes they did they sold very well.
So to be short this is just Crytek advertising how beautifull their games will look with the proper hardware etc. As they wont be so stupid to not make console ports of their games.

Farcry for 360 is probably the worst fps I have played in years, its nothing like Far Cry.

ya it was an Arcade dumbed down version of farcry.
But i doubt Crytek cared as the games sold.

All the 360 needed was the ability to switch to geometry shaders and it would've been dx10 compatible....

Surprisingly enough, they decided against it.

KA-52 helicopter? OMG!!!!

I only play BF2 because it's (sadly) the best helicopter sim available. It has the best graphics, and simulates a combat environment waymore accurately than anything else can.

Edit: it's not a bad word, they use it on TV all the time. Silly admins.

We shouldn't forget that a generation of consoles is ment to last at least 5 years (sony claims 10 for ps3) until the new generation appears.pc's improve at least once year.so one would expect contemporary consoles should have some technological lead compared to PCs.xbox360 does not seem to have one...
