EA’s executive vice president and general manager of international publishing Gerhard Florin described Crytek as a “very, very interesting candidate” for an acquisition. Faruk Yerli, co-founder of the Frankfurt, Germany, based game studio, confirmed related conversations with EA to Die Welt.

Very bad news.

Seen this posted on about 5 different forums, and everyone says it sucks.

Please EA, :banana::banana::banana::banana: off.

Well, let's see. The Crytek guys walk away with a ton of money from the buyout. EA makes a ton of money from Crysis and licensing fees for the engine. So basically, all of the decisionmakers have very real financial incentives to go through with a deal.

Pity that the gamers are the only parties who stand to get screwed. EA's corporate culture kills creativity and innovation like pesticide. If any deal is made, it's bye-bye Crytek.

I'm just hoping it's too early to press the panic button yet.

Ea hasn't killed DICE yet, so maybe they will let Crytek live ;)

And please dont respond to that with retarded comments about battlefield PC games.

We wont respond by saying BF2 is a fun game full of issues. No we wont, promise. We won't say that every patch that comes out seems to add more things but stability... NO. We wont say that.

EA needs to bring back road rash.

Well atleast it probably won't interfere with Crysis, we can think of it as their last big hurrah :)

Remember this. EA is really a huge publisher with a few developers of their own (buys co's which is the cheapest way and FASTEST to grow which = more $) and they want to cater to as many ppl as possible. This causes them to make "easy" games and they are usually rushed to get them out on time for the shareholders to reap benefits as well as the insiders.

They have an ocassional good fling, Fight Night Round 3 is generally amazing and I can't deny that I am in love with the BF2142 beta (which is not BF2 reskinned)

Some ppl are saying it's just a mod

On your boxing love:
That is where most ppl would probably agree where they shine, sports. Hwever, my "hate" for them came when ESPN (2k series) lost the football game war. Not because Madden was better, not even close IMO, but becasue of the $ behind EA.

Depends on how a it would happen.

Good devs dont stand to lose much, but only if they are well run... remember, a dev that makes good games doesnt mean its well run. thats when you see EA make alot of changes, that may hurt game quality but not profits.

Not really, NFL made the decision to make the liscence up to bid. EA and Sega both had equal chance of getting the bid. Didn't happen because EA is evil, but more so that the NFL is.

Hmm didn't know that. Still pissed me off. ESPN was so better the game.

I stopped playing Madden since I 1st got Dreamcast and teh 2k series.

No, FN3 is the only good sports game EA makes, the rest are utter crap. And its literally not possible to call BF2142 a reskinning of BF2 if you have played the beta more than 5 minutes.

Anywho who is saying that is either lying about having played the game or played it for 5 minutes. Although Titan mode involves capturing missle silos the entire premise of the Titan base has changed the nature of the game. It went from decreasing numbers from capping flags to capping flags that blow up a force field and then you MUST use teamwork inside of a gigantic hulking space ship to blow up a reactor core.

and don't even get me started on the weapons, vehicles, and upgrades. It's not the same game- trust me.

And NASCAR. That deal with EA killed without a doubt the best racing sim series available, NR2003 by Papyrus.

This thread is turning into hate ea thread. heh heh

EA has helped the industry in helping it grow and become more mainstream. The ppl that really hate the company are the hardcore gamers. The reg gamer doesn even care.

EA is okay. Just wished they didn't rush things too much.

Never really played Far Cry too much. Maybe I'll get into Crysis.

Actually EA has been after Crytek for awhile, and in the beginning it seemed Crytek was pretty happy about it. Then all of a sudden the story died; coincidentally around the time, if not the same exact time that EA got hit with the unfair work practices lawsuit. So there is hope, Crytek ACTUALLY cares about its employees;D

will wonders never cease...

EA and Sony SCEA/SOE. i think everyone who plays games will agree that those two companies are by far the worse when it comes to quality.

Sony killed any number of games that they bought out too. EQ not the least of these.

Although i have to admit i'm not much the fan of the style of games that Crytek makes, i'm more of an RPer, it'd be a real pity if another good developer got bought by EA...

In simple words,

Sod off.

Keep to ruining your own crappy games, not ones that are good/going to be good.

This is a rumor that was today proven incorrect:

UPDATE: According to a representative for Electronic Arts, Gerhard Florin's comments were misinterpreted; the company is not negotiation the acquisition of Crytek.
