Hey, where can I get barbs for my radiator? Im trying to install it and the barbs they sent me with that are too small. They don't fit in the hole. I don't want to order it then wait a week for the barbs to come in. Would any other store have them like home depot or something?

Thanks

what radiator? i believe i remember seeing somewhere that the PA series uses G1/4, which means the stuff Petras carries would work perfect.

Pa is 3/8, no?

its 3/8. But I don't really want to wait a week to order online and get them.

Its a MCR320. 3/8" holes. in using 7/16 tubing.

Is the only place I can get them online?

If you're in the U.S. ACE hardware or LOWES woud be a perfect place to start.
As long as the fittings are NPT - if they are'nt then you're stuck playing the waiting game.

3/8" NPT threads. you could probably get something at your local marine depot... if you don't have any marine depot's that are that local, try looking in your phone book for various hardware stores and such... call them all until someone tells you that they carry tube fittings. since it's 3/8" NPT it shouldn't be too hard to get local. G1/4 is a european standard, so it'd be a little less sure if you'd gotten a PA :D

like here:
http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/prodmeta/pg_prodmeta.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&cartCntKey=Power+Tools%2FAir+Tools%2FAir+Compresso rs+%26+Accessories%2FHoses+%26+Fittings&CNTKEY=Products_2%2FPower+Tools%2FAir+Tools%2FAir+ Compressors+%26+Accessories%2FHoses+%26+Fittings&ProductOID=747387&BV_SessionID=@@@@1557620921.1156735518@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdkaddijjjklihcgelceffdfgidglo.0

It's a 3/8 NPT. But its 1/4 instead of 1/2. Does that mean my tubing wont fit it?

thx

yes... the barbed part of the barb has to be 1/2 for it to fit

I found these at a store I suppodudly have near me on google maps. But I don't know which one to choose from.

Two say Brass, Two say nothing (I guess plastic). Is brass or plastic better?
And they each have a 1/2x3/8 or 3/8x1/2

Am I 1/2x3/8 or 3/8x1/2

I would say 3/8 by 1/2

Pleace like Home Depot, Lowes, and ACE hardware carry a LOT of fittings. I've had to use Lowes and ACE on more than one occasion. But I've never gone there for G1/4. Come to think of it, i've never had any parts that used G1/4. So, if the Thermochill PA uses G1/4 - then i have to go HOPE TO GOD that they get my order right. Which seems to be becoming more of an issue laetly..........

brass is metal

metal > plastic

so 3/8x1/2 brass?

not 1/2x3/8 brass. Correct?

And do you know if home depot or lowes has items that aren't shown online?

Because I typed in NPT at both home depot and lowes, and they didn't have many. They had one showing 3/8. but it was 1/4.

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productList&N=0&Ntk=i_products&Ntt=NPT
and
http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?CNTTYPE=PROD_META&CNTKEY=misc%2fsearchResults.jsp&BV_SessionID=@@@@1078648788.1156737004@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdhaddijjjldfmcgelceffdfgidgkg.0&MID=9876

None of those would work right? Or maybe the store would have something the online site wouldn't or no..

thx

ps: I found this at lowes. But it has a 90 degree angle in it. That wouldn't work would it...

I went to a local hardware store and found some brass 3/8 barb with 1/2 tubing fits. I believe it's called: "Brass barb hose fit., 1/2"x3/8" NPT M Insert"

It looks like this: https://secure54.easycgi.com/sealenterprises/images/products/5520218.jpg

When I put it in the rad, it FIT!! But about 1cm of the thread sticks out of the top. But it won't go any more. Do you think it would be okay to put like some tape around the threads or something. Would that work?

ps: I'm soaking the brass barbs in vinegar right now because they had a weird smell.. :)

you should see about finding some rubber washer things... use those and then teflon/plumbers tape to make sure you've got it sealed good if you're worried about the seal. personally, i'd just leak test it and if there's no leaks, run it as is.

That is normal for NPT threads; they are tapered so they should be tight at about that point. Use PTFE tape on them for sure, an O-ring won't do you any good (no place for it to make a seal).

this may sound like a stupid question..

1.) But its normal for NPT threads to stick out? I mean people here have their working sticking out?

2.) And the plumbers tape... where exactly do I put it? On the threads, then screw it in? Or on the top after I screw it in.

3.) Is NPT better than the regular threads?

Thanks.

1. sometimes, as long as it's good and snug it's fine
2. around the threads.
3. npt generally is "normal threads", all regular pipe uses npt threads
both designs have their weaknesses, npt generally has to be tightened tighter, but doesn't have a O-ring to wear out

3.) Is NPT better than the regular threads?

1.) Every NPT-NPT fitting I have used stuck out like that, if it is tight it is tight. This includes when I put some cast copper reducer couplings in an oven to 200F to expand them for the tightest fit possible over some male NPT barbs - the threads still stuck out about 40% when I was done.

2.) You wrap it around the male threaded piece, yes. Tip: wrap it so that the end you cut will not be turned into the twist, which will prevent the tape from bunching up as you screw it together.

3.) In the US, most threaded fittings are NPT unless otherwise stated. The best thread type is the one that matches the other piece you are connecting it to :D.
