When I was removing the ramsinks from my 6800 Ultra, one of the memory chips came off with it! There was nothing I could do but laugh at my destruction. Later I cried myself to sleep with my old crusty Ti4600 under my pillow hoping it would change into a shiny new 6800U. Today I woke up with a Ti4600. Is there any way to get that memory chip back on there?

nope you have to buy a new one and solder that one on

The original memory chip is fully in tact stuck on the bottom of a ramsink. Why couldn't I use it instead of buying a new one?

you try resoldering a BGA chip

could try heating up the solder with a heatgun... and slapping it back on.. and praying it works... (probably a 2 man job)
i was going to try and do that to a D9 stick i had... ended up finding a missing trace on the PCB... so yeah... it was screwed!
check for missing traces

You cannot solder a BGA or FBGA chip back onto the board. It requires special tools that you probably don't have ;)
I'd have to say that all is lost on that one.

Good luck at the least the old solder would have to be removed off the chip and the pcb. I would then check the pcb for damage as there is a high chance that there will be. Then you would need a reballing station or at least a suitable bga stencil, magnet flux and the solder balls. Then you could try a hot air gun I have never used one to solder but I have used one to remove chips and it works.
Anyway as I said good luck you might try the manufacturer and see if you can get it repaired

Sounds like more work that its worth.
Let it go in peace.

I'll call eVGA and since if they have a repair department for cry babies like me. Or maybe a rehabilitation seminar.
they probably have a rehab center for the ppl that got fired for causing all those recalls.
anyone, sorry to hear the news.
just wondering, would it still work without 1 memory chip?

LOL, one time I fixed a pin in a small walkman, that came loose from its solder on the circuit board, by using a small heated pair of needle nose pliers. I held the tips of the pliers over a flame till they were almost hot enough to melt the solder but not quite, then used them to pinch the existing solder around the pin. It actually worked!

Well I don't think a pair of hot tweezers will work as there are no leads to solder just small balls of solder attached to pads underneath the chip.

there is a few companies who specialize in this stuff, i forget the name though.
they can do bga rework, and if you provide them with the card and chip i beleive they charge about 45$.
just make sure to take the sink off the chip.
if you want your card to live, DONT try doing anything yourself.
ask in the off topic, i think thats where i seen someone post a really really good site that had prices and explanations for each different procedure.

Its not just rework as there would be a high chance of board damaged as the chip fell/forced off so he would have to get the pcb fixed first.
Have you got any links for any company's as I have been playing around trying to solder smaller bga's without success and I am looking for a cheap way to do it. :)
Is there a way that end users could resolder BGA mems? or any type of memory package that current cards use.. ??

Maybe TSSOP-2 packages but not really with BGA as you would need x-ray inspection so that you can see if all the balls soldered correctly.
