View Full Version : Leak Testing Issue

I've been lurking around here for awhile, reading stickies and whatnot, and I ordered my first setup in July (AquaXtreme MP-05 SP LE : AquaXtreme MP-1 : Liang D5 : BI GT Stealth 240 : XPSC Passive 250ml : MasterKleer 7/16th.) I recently built a new computer to install it on, and everything was going decent until today. I got all my hoses connected and I filled my loop with water, so I plugged in my PSU (OCZ GameXtreme 700w) and flipped the switch. It turned on, and the pump started pulling water in and pushing it to the rad. Then, after about 2 seconds, it just shut down. As a note, I had only the pump plugged into a molex connector, and the ATX connector was jumped from the 4th pin (green) to the 5th pin (black). I figured ok, I need to add more water anyways, so I did this and flipped the switch again. The same thing happened. I turned the switch off on the power supply, and tried to start it again, but nothing happened. It seems like I have to wait for a few minutes before it'll fire up again briefly.
My question is, what am I doing wrong? I'd really like to get this system leak-tested so I can try out my new rig :D Thanks in advance for the help, and let me know if I need to explain anything else in greater detail.
did you use the standoffs for the motherboard?
these are little screws that'll elevate your mobo so it won't get shorted. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with your mobo, so don't panic.
just get that mobo onto something non-metal if you want to test outside of the case. if you dont want to, then install the standoffs into your case and test there.
also, make sure all cables/etc are connected properly.
im pretty damn sure that this is your problem. it was mine when i built my first new rig ;)

Yah, I used standoffs. This is my second rig ;) but first time water cooling. Nothing is connected to the power supply except the pump. Should I plug the power supply into anything else for leak testing? Maybe there isn't enough load or something.

I always put an 80mm fan on the power supply for that extra load. Nothing else is hooked up to the power supply right, just pump?

possible no load issue, best use an old AT PSU by it self, great for testing other stuff too. if you can get a monojet 160cc syringe (http://69.20.46.50/productimages/Kendall_140CCSY.gif), that to prime the pump an push/suck out air, great for picking up spilled liquid also.

I'll try attaching a fan or two to the power supply. I know my pump is ok, because it's pushing water fine, when the power supply is on.
