A pci-x slot would be nice too and/or SAS support, but you really can't complain too much at that price. Hard to find dual socket mobos that cheap!

LOL at the description:

ASUS KFN5-D SLI Dual Socket 1207 NVIDIA nForce Professional 3600 Extended ATX Server Motherboard - Retail

Yeah cause you need SLI in a server ;)

That's prolly why there is no PCI-X, no proper raid etc.

It's more of a workstation motherboard than a server.

The KFN5-D SLI targets the enthusiast crowd by offering excellent graphics capability with the SLI-ready, dual-PCI-E x16 platform.

either thats a Intel Processor with a sticker on it... or AMD has a new IHS (one that seems to be designed to stop people from removing it, like intels is)

The second set of notches can be photochopped in. But still, why would you want to remove an IHS on a server/wrokstation opteron? I know i wouldn't. Plus with that the mounting in the socket could get a bit problematic too. Don't know about that, haven't seen an LGA in real yet.

But on the other hand, your fears do have a background. These IHS (if they are designed to be non-removable) could be put on AM2 CPUs too. No good for us then.

It has really nothing to do with removing the IHS...

With LGA the mounting requires a smaller and lower IHS (it's part of the design actually). You don't want to remove the IHS on LGA, you won't be able to mount the CPU. Remember the CPU needs to be pushed onto the LGA to make good contact if you remove the IHS the thing would be loose in it's mounting.

Also see this picture: http://article.pchome.net/00/13/05/68/000326999.jpg

This is the mounting: http://www.thorry.net/socketfmounting.png
You see the big piece of metal to the right clips over the CPU to put it firmly in it's place (on of the benefits of LGA <-> ZIF socket). Without the IHS that won't work.

And don't think Intel invented LGA, they got it under license just like AMD does.

If I remember correctly for the longest time IBM owned the patent for LGA
