Hello, I'm having some major problems.( first time I havn';t been able to search the forums and find a cure)

Here's my situation..

I'm using a NF4 Ultra-D unmodded

I got in from work, powered up my PC, and found the NorthBridge was makin a right racket(very noisey).
So, as I had been planning to change the NB to a silent passive one, I chose this time to do the swap over.

Only problem I was going to have was that I would have to drop the graphics card (1900xt) to the lower PCI slot, to make room for the NB.

So after changing it all around, and powering up, and then running a few games to make sure all was ok, I had a major drop in FPS, like GTR2 demo from 32fps to 7 fps, other games just black screen and Aqua mark test scored 10k down from 14k for the Grfx card. Mainly back screens and hard locks.

I havn't damaged anything as I always use the up most care( anti static strap/mat etc.

I was thinking I might lose a few % as the 2nd slot is only 8x instead of 16x(I think that is correct?)

But I have a lot less FPS than a few % and a lot of games just hanging etc.

I done a proper uninstall/driver cleaner/re-install or the drivers..I'm at a loss as to what to do. (other than swapping it all back to original placement of the card.

Any help you can give would be truley appreciated.

Thanks again for your time.

I would ditch the stock northbridge fan and replace it with an Evercool VC-RE.
It's a mod that lots of Ultra-D users do. It's quieter and cools better than the stock northbridge heatsink, plus it's small enough that you can still put your card in the first pci-e slot.:)

The slots are 16x and 2x without moving the jumpers. When you move the jumpers to SLI mode, it becomes an 8x lane. When you use it like this, you won't need to mod your board or anything really...just move the jumpers.

Yes, you should just get a better fan...

Thanks for the replies. So I'm running at 2x not 8x. I am using the Zalman ZM-NB47J. I just need to change the jumpers about then?
I searched google for the jumper settings, and found a review at ViperLare, that stated 'if you want the board to boot, don't change the jumper settings'
That's probly very old, and unfortuantely so is this mobo, all my manuals have been lost over time.
WOuld be great if somone could direct me to the correct settings for it to operate at 8x.
Once again thank you for your time and help, very much appreciated.
I will continue looking for the manual anyway ;) Thanks.

Edit, just going to move all the jumpers down, I imagine that must be the setting. If that isn't it, and it doesn't work, I'll post back.
Thanks again !!!
