I am in the early stages of a WC setup, and I need the 1/2" barbs Cooltechnica sells for my Thermochill rad. Not wanting to pay a bunch of shipping for a $4.50 item, I thought I would order something else from them to make the shipping worth my while. I saw this...http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AQX-MP05-SP-LE&Category_Code=WB, which looks a lot like a Storm. Is it? Do I need an accelerator nozzle mid plate kit? I am planning to cool CPU and GPU, already have a Thermochill PA120.3, and am looking at a DDC with the Radiical head.

Thanks in advance. Just when I think I have a handle on this Water Cooling thing, new stuff surfaces.

It's what it says it is :p:. It's the AqX MP-05 LE - performs pretty much exactly the same as a Storm Rev2 so it's a VERY good block. If the Storm and that block were available from the same place and the Storm was out of stock, I wouldn't hesistate at all in buying that.

I'm not sure about the accelerator plate - I think it is required for Storm like performance but don't quote me on that - please get that verified.

You don't need a kit if you get it with the normal SP mid plate. You should get max. performance with that. The other plates are just if you do have a weak pump or so, just like the kits DD offers.

So, basically, it is a really good block, and it would give me comparable performance to a Storm in the loop I am building?

Yes. It gives performance almost exactly the same as the Storm Rev.2.

I think it goes Storm G4 > AqX MP-05 LE > Storm G4 Rev. 2. It comes basically in between the two storm revisions and believe me, considering how good the first Swiftech Storm was...

Sorry, for the maths ppl out there - I did not really pay much attention to what I wrote which might lead people to think I was starting from the best, when in fact I was using the greater than sign as an arrow :D.

i've got a sp-le useing the #3 mid plate it took about 3-4* off my load temps from the tdx i was useing all in all very happy with the performance

i also have the other mid plates but the one with all the little holes does the best

is there a post with discussions about midplate in our water blocks?
the X, Line, little holes, there is even the blank/no holes midplate...

I have the MP-05 SP LE and the Storm rev2. Both are excellent blocks and I still can't decide which I like best but I am leaning towards the MP-05.

The only thing is the MP should be MORE restrictive than the storm... keep that in mind.

why??

What I like better on the Storm is that the surface area being cooled looks a bit bigger than on the MP-05. Still curious how big the effect might be, or say the performance difference between the two on a large die chip like mine.

I thought many suggested the MP-05 for the cpu with IHS biggest it had a larger cooler surface or am I confused???

I am looking forward to your testing of the two Doc. :D
