Hey, Im almost done cleaning the parts. I'm following the guide in the sticky.

Anyways, I have a stacker t01 case, and these components
3 Yate Loon Fans
G12 Coolant
MCP655 VDC Pump
Storm Extreme Performance Waterblock
DangerDen Maze4 GPU
MCRES-Micro Reservoir
15ft 7/16" PVC Clear Tubing
MC14 Ramsinks (EDIT. Did not put them in my package...)
MCR320 Radiator
p5w DH Deluxe Motherboard
GameXtream 700w power supply (already installed)
2 gigs patriot memory
2 320gb seagate sata hard drives
x1900 xtx video card

Does anyone know of a watercooling installation guide (as in where all to install everything and what to do first etc).

Or can anyone help me out? I'm already having a hard time calling performance-pcs to get a MC14 ramsink package sent out. There was none in the box...

Anyways, thanks alot.

ehh.. thats for an inline setup. I have a res.

also. my rad is a MCR320 Radiator. I'm trying to mount it on the front of the case (behind all the drive bays). But there's no screw holes on the side for the rad. Right now I have cardboard plugging the sides of the rad to secure it (not really secure) in place. Is there anything else I can do to fasten it on the case? I just moved into my dorm/apartment so I don't really have a drill.

thanks.

ps: also, what area would be good to place my pump and my reservoir in the case? I have a stacker t01 again.

Thanks alot.

ps#2: would that guide he posted above work for me even though I don't have an inline setup?

LOL you need 15 feet of tubing?
That's an awful lot, can't imagine you'd need more than 7...

Here is what I did for my rad.

Go to a hardware store.

Get some industrial velcro. (Spellcheck)
Without pictures I cannot tell if your rad will touch the sides of your 5.25 bays.

Also you can grab some Bolts that will line the bay. Ill post some pictures later, when I get out of work.

industrial velcro... hmm. I'll look for that today and I'm looking foward to those pics when you get home. I need all the help I can get.

Also. Anyone have any suggestions on where to put stuff and the process to test, etc. The guide at the top isn't that explanatory on this.

thanks ALOT!!

My guide may be of some help... but I also left things rather open-ended when it came to component placement: http://site.petrastechshop.com/other/PT_WC_Guide.pdf

well the STICKY is a good start with a couple of fundamental info

but, Petra, your guide is very nice indeed!

1. as for the rad being behind/in the optical bays, try a few pcs of 1/4inch by 1/2inch rubber strips screw with the rad and some hole somewhere...
also velcro as mentioned above or even duct aluminum tape...
(currently i have a paperclip holding my MCRes-Micro...)

cardboard in not really frowned upon, many have even used it in there cases...

so long as its airtight between fan-cardboard-rad-cardboard-fan
or for your setup of case-cardboard/shroud-rad-cardboad/shroud-fan
with the cool air outside your case being pulled in thru rad thru fan to case
and the other case fans being exhaust...

hey. Question.

My tripple radiator I have. (MCR320).
I tried placing it all over the case. I originally thought I would mount it on the front, but I have lots of drive components.

Do you think it'd be okay to mount it on the bottom? Just like put cardboard underneath it or foam and tape it? If so, that'd help alot.

ps: If I put my rad on the bottom, do I want the air coming in from the bottom? or out to the bottom?

generally you'd still be wanting that cool bottom air to be pulled from bottom thru rad thru fan into case... this would also help cool some pci components.

so your most likely setup would be cool air being pulled thru rad at bottom
then back &top being exhaust, and front as intake to cool your HDs...
this would be my likely setup in that instance, of course depending on your rig/space/table you may have other notions...

thanks septim. that helped alot.

as far as the rad being on the bottom part. I have a stacker t01. Someone pm'd me earlier this week and told me that the only place I could put my rad is on the front b/c there's no room on the bottom. But that limits my drive bays, and I really don't want to do that.

thats the bottom. When I put my radiator on the bottom. It looks like the opening at the bottom of the case made for the fans would be big enough for a double rad (or 2 fans), but I have a tripple. There's a little part of the radiator that doesn't have an opening under it.

Will that be okay you think?

i use this at work to velcro laptops to a swivel deskmount. Very strong but its great because i always have to take them out to fix them. You would be quite surprised how often someone spills coffee on a laptop thats in a car

im my stacker i used 2 rads a 1x120 and a 2x120. I drilled 6 screw holes in the bottom vent and mounted the double rad right over it exhausting the air. then on the rear 120mm port i mounted the other single rad. The bottom PSU slot i mounted to 80mm fans exhausting. Also the top 80mm is an exhaust. The front hard drive 120mm fan intakes and i have the cross flow fan intake blowing in the mobo. Ive noticed it worked best this way as a vaccum setup. All the dust gets trapped in the front grille and i just periodicly whip the front off. No dust in the case and it stays very cool. I noticed a 2 degree drop when i changed the bottom rad to a exhaust, because originally i did it as an intake

you could also cut the bottom of the case, you only need to extend the hole a few extra inches to fit the triple rad. My double has about 2 extra inches to spare

Can you get that velcro you use at like Home Depot? Bc I need to stop there to get some screws for my res.

and I'm kinda limited on tools like a drill and case-cutting tools, so if I decided to put the rad on the bottom, only some of the radiator would be cut off from the open fan area. Would it be okay to do?

hmm wouldn't recommend that, can you borrow some tools?

also home depot should have those industrial velcro s

how many drive bays are you planning to use up?

I have my dvd-burner. My floppy drive. My x-fi front-bay controller. My fan controller. And my lights controller.

and why would you not reccomend it? Will covering up a little of the rad make that much of a difference??

thanks alot.

a few degrees estimated.. airflow is really needed to cool rad. for optimal performance of a PA, especially with yates on 4 to 6volts a shroud comes highly recommended...

meaning, air must/should be passing thru every inch of fins...

I'll try to find someone with a case cutting tool, but i dont think I'll have that much luck. It's college here. People usually only have the basics.

Anyways, if I elevate the radiator about an inch up from the bottom of the case. Would that help? I mean if 3 inches of the rad doesn't have a clear opening, would that really hurt that much? Or would that still be bad and fry my system or something. Even if i raise it up.

as long as its elevated, and shrouded airtight, better...

liberal use of cardboard and tape is helpfull...

CrewXp

what do u mean by shrouded airtight?

thx

septim
08-28-2006, 09:01 AM
as in you have cool air from outside
going directly inthru your rad (cost it's block on all sides by a airtight shroud)
being pulled by fans into your case

you won't/must not recycle the air inside your case going into your rad again.

CrewXp

Also.. should I place the yate loon fans on the top or the bottom of the rad. Currently I have them on the top, that way I can mount the rad up using some motherboard mount screws I have.

It's okay if the motherboard mount screw touches the actual radiator, right? That's how I'm going to elevate it.
