Hey guys. I was just wondering about tv tuners. My gf and I just moved into our apartment and we don't have a tv and we started thinking abut getting a tv tuner for my comp since it's in the living room. Do tv tuners for pc's only work if you have cable or satellite? Can you just hook up a pair of bunny ears and tune in local channels?

1) depends on the Card
2) depends on the quality you expect

Yes you can hook it directly to "bunny ears", but as nn_step pointed out you should be aware of the quality.

It will look pretty bad from broadcast as opposed to analog cable.

If your thinking of doing this then my suggestion is to buy a card from your local brick and mortar(best buy, curcuit city, frys, etc). Then try it out and if you aren't satisfied return it without having to pay shipping costs.

Cool. I guess I'll try it and see how craptastic it is. Thanks.

Before (XP)MediaCenter Edition the Leadtek TV2000Pro with a 10 bit tuner ($40.00-$60.00) was the best for the money.

After (XP)MediaCenter Edition I went through a ton of cards and the XFX Nvidia TV OEM

has the best picture and driver support I have seen todate. I use the OEM cause there is no need for a remote when the MediaCenter remote works fine.
