ASUS P5B Deluxe bios questions......

Hey whats up peopel, i just put together my Conroe system....

ASUS P5B Deluxe
E6600
G.skill 6400 ddr2 800

anyone know how to set 1t or 2t for the memory, as i dont see an option for this in the bios......also do you guys disable these features for the cpu?

c1e support enable or disable?
max cpuid value limit?
vanderpool tech?
cpu tm function?
execute disable bit?
speedstep?

Whyddaya neeed to set 1T/CPC on P965?
c1e - disable
max cpu id - leave it as it is
vanderpool - i had no performance drop enabling it so leave it on
cpu tm - i keep it disabled
ED Bit - enable
speedstep - disable

HAHA, i just got the system didnt notice it to change it, imma change it now, thanx...

Also the 1/t 2/t thing, i wanna know how to set it, is there an option to change it???.......i mean for amd 1t gave a huge performance increase, and i dont wanna have it running at 2t....anyone know how to check it and change this feature.

Intel boards do not run 1T, only 2T. The one exception that I know of is the old NF4 SLI Intel Edition chipset.

Timings dont really matter for C2D, incl. command rate. Also having EIST/C1E/TM2 on is good, unless you do a short benchmark run for the extreme.

Actually, timings will matter on some longer benchmarks like SuperPi 32M. You won't notice much difference on a short bench like 1M. I always use the analogy of track & field runners. In the 100 meter dash, the difference between the first and last place runner may be less than a second. But in a longer race like the 1500 meters, the difference may be 10-15 seconds.

Thanks for the info guys, im coming from an amd system i used for a while, and loved it, but the conroe's are too sweet to pass up, so i bought one.....anyway im new to intel i know intel and amd work differently, also is there any special settings i need to adjust to get max perfomance and overclockability, right now with the stock cooler im running it at 3ghz at 1.31v, im waiting for my Scythe Mine to come from newegg ...... any sugestions would be highly apreciated, thanks.

One of the keys is the northbridge. In order to get high FSB, you need to raise the northbridge voltage. It's the bios item called NB VCore. It's also sometimes referred to as MCH (memory controller hub) voltage. The negative side effect is that the northbridge will get hot. So you may need active cooling if you raise the voltage.

Intel boards make use of straps and ratios (dividers in AMD-speak). The strap basically determines how high the FSB can go. The P5B does not have strap settings, but a strap is still being used because the northbridge has to know what default frequency the CPU is operating at. Asus and a few other board-makers have somehow got around the use of NB strap settings.

This may all seem confusing at first, but it will begin to make sense after you use Intel for awhile.
