I'm considering either one 7950GX2:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130023 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130023)
or 2 7900GT's in SLI:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130033 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130033)

They cost the same and either way I'd have 2 gpu's at 500mhz stock. The difference is that the GX2 has 1GB @ 1200mhz vs the GT's 512mb total mem @ 1500mhz. The main game I'll be playing is UT2007. What would you pick?

The 7950GX2 for sure.1 PCI-E slotcard=2gpu,less heat less noice. And if u really really need more u could always go Quad

7950GX2 = 2x 7900GT in one.
For stock usage take the 7950GX2 but if you want to OC better option is 2x 7900GT because of better cooling.

Personally I would take the 7950GX2 cause I agree with AnjinSan1966 ;)

Before I updated to my 7950gx2, I considered the following:
1) A single 7950gx2 is faster and its clocked lower than each 7900GT
2) Some 7900GT still have defective capacitors AFAIK, which causes the card to die in a short time.
3) A single 7950gx2 can run in about any board with a PCI-E slot
4) The vGPU is between that of 7900GT and GTX, but the vMem is lower than both the 7900GT and GTX
5) 7950gx2 is more like an underclocked 7900GTX than a pair of 7900GT.
6) Considering #4 & 5, the 7950gx2 has a good chance of easily reaching 2x 7900GTX SLI speeds with the proper cooling.

The only disadvantages that I found were:
1) The space between the cards is verry narrow, which makes it hard to put a better cooling solution.
2) The card requires some volt modding to match those of a 7900GTX.

To overcome these disadvantages I have the following solutions:
For #1: I tryed finding people who could make a longer PCB bridge:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=110198

For #2: There's a nice Volt Mod Guide available at VR-Zone:
http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=3659

Result to the problems:
For #1: So far, noone wants to help me
But this mod is possible, as you can see in this link:
http://imageevent.com/marginjohn/viperjohn
I dont want to get it from ViperJohn pecause his custom bridge is too expensive IMO.
If anyone is interrested in a cheap custom bridge, please keep this thread alive to see if someone shows up who can help :D
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=110198

For #2: At this moment, I dont feel the need to volt mod :D

Spend wisely ;)

"If you are on the lookout for a great VGA card, the rest of your system is fast as can be and a price tag of over $500 Dollars does not scare you, go right ahead and grab yourself an NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2. Nonetheless, if you have a PC which is older than 18 months or have a normal 1280x1024 capable Monitor or LCD, you may want to hold your horses until you grab yourself a brand new PC or larger screen."

Isnt a 7950GT everyhting the 7900GT have been?

EG: Reliable, oveclockable etc.....

For those with Intel chipsets - SLI is only avialable with hacked drivers of which there will be no new drivers unless Nvidia change drivers to open source or introduce SLI officialy for the 975 chipset.

7950GX2 will run no porblem on most boards - so you can use the latest drivers every time.

Yea definately go with the 7950GX2. Only piece of hardware I've ever had to RMA was an EVGA 7900GT KO Superclock (came dead, submitted rma July 28 being told that they would ship first, paid $30 for overnight shipping and still have yet to recieve it.) Looking at their policies now I see that the guy lied because the policy states that they don't do cross-shipping. Even on a friggin card that EVERY single one they sold (with the f'ed up memory) arrived dead.

Now I read that the card HAS to be recieved within 14 days of submitted the RMA online.

They better not make me pay for shipping again. Probably gonna call and complain and ask that they step me up to the 512mb 7900GT KO.

I was thinking about buying a 7950GX2 on newegg and the evga model was the cheapest at $499.99 (about a week ago). While I'm waiting on a check, I check the price every day and it's slowly been going higher and higher. Just earlier today it was up to $522.99, but I checked again 5 min ago and it's $532.99!

I just might grab 2 7900GT's for SLI...it would be cheaper!

I have a 7900GT and if you sink the memory and install some after market cooling and sink the memory and voltage controllers, its an awesome card!!!

7900GT vmod to GTX speeds will smoke the GX2, which is what I plan on doing. Furthermore, it will be cool if you install VF900 coolers.

If you already have a 7900GT, just get another one for 230 bucks, get a 40 buck VF900 and you're good to go!

vmod :woot:
