how the hell do you mount a fan to the RAM area? I won't eb running my ram at high volts but would prefer to it be chilled somewhat.

Below is the basic idea of what I am going for, modifications will be made as needed given case and motherboard layout.(and yes i realize the infinity's fan would be orthoganal to the case fan not straight to it)

another question, what would a recomende fan be. I'm not looking for high maximum CFM and low db, I'm looking for decent max CFM, decent db and enough power to push air in an area that isn't 100% wide open...

i stick a zip tie through empty mobo standoff hole so the big part is in back of board ind skinny part sticks out past ram then cut the head off of another tie and slide it on until snug and trim off extra. my mobo has 4 holes around ram and only two use standoffs so i have two open ones to use for fan. i use water btw so fan is vital my ram losses 50 mhz oc w/out a fan on them. hope that works for you.

so just leave a standoff or hole unused and use tie wrap or something similar, correct.

that should be good for relatively long term use with minimal mantainence, right?

and any suggestions for a decent fan for the purpose at a reasonable price or will pretty much anything do. I want to use the ram long term and am aiming for 917mhz on it(DDR2, 1.8-2.2V as needed, will go down to 733mhz if absolutely necessary).

I also recently decided to actively cool my ram, I found an idea here (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=350891&highlight=inspired) that seemed really good.

Here is a [bad] picture of this method in my box:

It's working well.

and don't worry about the image beeing a bit off... I knwo how to use photoshop

fixed the brightness/contrast

also, I plan on using black electrical tape over the hangers... no risk of a short circuit for me..

on my ram...it doesn't like any higher. cpu at stock 1.3875 my motherboard only does 240 max fsb so i dropped down to an even 4ghz @235 and found i didn't need extra voltage to be stable. you do realise it is ddr1 ? g.skill pc4000hz 250 mhz

might consider doing that as well... I'm likely to buy 5+ case fans(120MM) and just atempt to get full use out of them

You don't have to worry about that if you pick the right hangers, most of them have some coating on them. I tested resistance on them before I used them. Good Luck. :toast:

It's hard to see but I used one of the mobo mounting holes and a large stand off.
