Hello! I'm going to buy a new PC, based on Conroe and at the moment I'm thinking about the cooling. As always, I'm looking for a good and _silent_ cooling. No water please ;-].

Cooling Conroe:
Reading some reviews I found out, that those are quite good:
1.Thermaltake BigTyphoon
2.Thermalright Ultra-120 + Akasa 120x120x25 Amber Series [AK-183-L2B]

What's the difference between the new Ultra-120 and that old XP-120?
What would you recommend? And between proc and fan.... Arctic Silver 5?

Cooling graphic card (GeForce 7900GT):
According to the forum, the best choice is Zalman VF900-Cu. Is that true?

Cooling and silencing HDD:
I have no idea. Surfing the Internet I found those solutions:
1.Cooler Master 4-in-3 module [CM-4in3]
2.Thermaltake iCage 3 x 3,5" [A2309]
3.Noiseblocker Driveguard 3,5" [NB.DR.GUARD]
4.Noiseblocker Gladiator [NB.GLADIATOR]
5.CoolerMaster CoolDrive 6 or 7

I would like sth what isn't similar to the first 2 solutions (don't want 3 x 3,5" occupied) but if there is a big difference in quality I can think about it.

Fans in the case:
I've got 5 places to put 80x80 fans. What would you choose? YS Tech 80 Ultra Silent or Noiseblocker Ultrasilent 80mm S1 ? Or maybe sth else?

Thank you very much for help!
Greetings,
Theriel

Cooling Conroe:
Thermalright Ultra-120 and Nexus 120mm

Cooling graphic card (GeForce 7900GT):
Zalman VF900 .. should be perfect.

Cooling and silencing HDD:
Buy 320GB Western Digital HDs and you be fine .. its not worth the money to put then inside enclosures.

Fans in the case:
Find a case with 120mm fans ... :) .. otherwise i would go with 80mm Nexus fans . they are the quietest.

1. Big Typhoon
2. yeah, go with VF900
3. Don't bother with HD cooling, just get a good intake fan in front of your HDDs
4. Go for 120 mm fans.

Can any other person answer? I am still not sure about cooling Conroe... And what with that 80 mm fans - I have never heard about Nexus - thought that Noiseblocker and YS are the quietest...

a lot of peopel beleive that the absolute best mainstreme air-cooler on the market is the scythe infinity, though tere aren't a ton of reviews yet..

there must be a fair amoutn who beleive it though, newegg sold it for $10 above MSRP and it sold out within oen day...

I ordered mine from coolerguys... check scythe's offical website

From the looks of the Scythe Infinity, it seems sweet! I'd say it's probably better than a Big Typhoon or Ultra-120.

Ehhh guys, I really like you ;-]. In spite of solving the problem you can give me another one ^^. Now, I just have to wait for tests, comparing Typhoon, Infinity and Ultra-120+fan...

Get a Tuniq Tower if you can find one. Everybody uses it.. if they don't use it, they want it. Or grab an Infinity if you can.. overclocked Conroes don't go above 37c on torture test, according to one guy. It looks like it would do that, too.

why do people always recommend friggen the ultra-120 here...its good but theres better, especially with low cfm fans, definatly the scythe ninja, best all around heatsink for low cfm fans by far

Saw a test where the ultra 120 beat the Ninja, is why. There are a couple threads on it around here somewhere. Test was in German though.

all of these tests depend upon the fans used in them.

form what i know, just using stock fans included, the infinity and tuniq tower are pretty dang close, I give the infinity the technical win though, because you can actually find it in north america... both should scale weel with more pwoerful fans(that means that the fans need high pressure AND CFM, not just CFM) I can't say anything is absolute though as I have nto tested both.

I've eard that with good fannage, that the new thermalright SI-128 beats the Ultra-120, thogh with weaker(and/or quieter) the ultra-120 wins

big typhoon is an excelent cooler, if you aren't gettting one of the huge behemoth like coolers for one reason or another, it isn't bad at all.

AS5 is good, as is Arctic cermaic, check the thread here for debate. AS5 is the official recomended compound, but I've heard some people prefer ceramic... for me, I just bought ceramic because the diference between the two is minimal in terms of performance and ceramic is about 15-25% cheaper. ceramic is harder to work with(i've heard, i didn't think ti was tha tbad but just me), but since it is non-onductive, if you f' up, the risk is minimized since it cannot create a short circuit.

don't know anything about GFX coolers, I've heard the name arctic silencing here and there(in reference to radeons though), but again know relatively little

as for cooling the HDD(s)just put a 120mm case fan or two near them and have them cooled that way, far more cost effective

Thank you xlink for your response. The true is that Infinity is HUGE and I would be affraid of placing such thing on my case (+ there are some problems with installation)... So I probably will choose Big Typhoon or Ultra-120 + some silent fan. I like the second idea because I just want it to be as silent as possible...

If you have got some idea what exactly fan to use with Ultra-120 - I would be grateful...

P.S. I've read that Big Typhoon makes noise 16dBA - is it its MAXIMUM noise? Sounds too fine to believe...

Once again, thank you for help guys!

i promise that the big typhoon won't be the loudest fan in your case.
