I was experimenting with the WinBinder library for php, and i decided to make this tool.
It has 3 tests:
1. Timing loops for pure cpu speed
2. Making a large string for memory testing
3. Generating and writing a 300Mb file for cpu, memory and hard drive test.

The times are then aggregated into a score, and a hash of the score is made.
Lower scores are better!

Unfortunately the compiler i use doesn't support php5, so its half the speed it could run at.
Give it a go and see what you think. http://www.helixtech.org.uk/wrightmark.zip

Because its php it could easily be ported to Linux or Mac for a cli version.

I've updated it a bit, the main functions are faster and act more like they're supposed to :P
If you click in the window, or switch to another window whilst its running, it will appear to freeze. It hasn't, but the gui wont update till it has finished.
A full test only takes 2 minutes on my 1.5Ghz celeron, so its not much of a wait.

I'll d/load this when I get my new rig on the go. with this Socket A thing I'm on now, it'd probably kill it.

Every-ones CPU and hard drive times are around the same, but it seems the memory test is pushing it lots. I'll update the tests a bit and see what happens.

--UPDATE--
I've updated the program again, a few tweaks to all the tests, but i think i've hit the limit of usefulness of php for this project. Because its a server language, its designed to do the opposite of benchmarking really, and limit resource usage. Its easy to hit the CPU limit, but it uses very little ram, and there's no easy way to fix that. If i learn a new language, i might port it across.
Has anyone got any suggestions?

They're all different sticks that I brought 3 years ago (1x 512MB), 2 years ago (1x 512MB) and again a year and a half ago (another 512MB) - so they're not matched at all.

But the best is they're all DDR333. yet cos you can only have DDR333 in the 2 slots, once you use the 3rd bay, memory has to run at DDR266.

So it's 3x512MB (1.5GB) of DDR333 memory running at DDR266.

lol. Uber old skool crappy configs.

I'm afraid not, its a single thread application. If you want a dual core program, try the multipi program here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=111462).

I think this program is well and truly borked. Anyone with 1gb or less ram gets above 700, and people with 2gb can get under 100.
If everyone can wait 4 years whilst i go to uni and learn c++, i'll make a new version! :D

Well my tests seem to prove otherwise :D I think it's all right, perhaps those that run less than 1GB rams don't have such high end systems.

One suggestion, put the version number in the output as you update it. I learned that lesson the hard way when I had several versions of mine floating around with customers :)

The hash has the version number built in, so it could be worked out by a validator.

The slowest thing in that P4 system is an old ATA100 HDD. Along with being the slowest part it is also the loudest. The processor is a 533 Mhz FSB not the 800 Mhz Northwood with HT.
