Hello everybody,

Well, I have Teac DV-516E ( DVD/CD-ROM ) four years ago. The problem is t that it doesn't read DVD anymore. In the beginning when I purchased it, I played two DVD movies and it was working. Three years later, I used a DVD-rom, but it didn't read it. Yes, only two DVDs along that period and when I tried to use third one it didn't work. It reads CD-rom very well, but when it comes to DVD it just flash regularly trying to read then it stops. Moreover, I've never ever changed the region setting.

All helps will be much appreciated.

Flash firmware on it?
Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn't release any firmware upgrade for this type. but if it's possible to flash others' firmware, please let me know

Played any Starforce protected games?

Re-flash the firmware anyway, even if it's the same version.

Well, it is not entirely clear what Starforce does exactly, but people say that it changes the firmware of CD or DVD writers that are in the box when the copy protection is used. In an attempt to somehow have it cooperate with the software in deciding whether your next to-be-burned file is legit or not.

Personally I have a DVD burner that suddenly refuses to do DMA. Before that it worked years flawlessly, then it was in the Starforced machine and it wasn''t even used for burning anything during that time (I burn from Linux or FreeBSD), so it is unlikely to have broken from mechanical wear.

I'll fire up an email to Teac support and/or look for DVD writer models that are identical so that you can use their firmware.
