View Full Version : Improving HDD Performance?

Which of the following would increase my overall HD performance:

-buying a second 250GB hard drive for RAID-0
-buying a single 150GB Raptor
-buying two 74GB Raptors for RAID-0

I was thinking that the second option would be the best choice. What do you think?

PS: My hard drive is already completely optimized for the best possible performance and I perform maintenance tasks at least once a week.

Please move your post to here:

This is an "Intel" forum. OK?

Oh, I'm sorry! Most of my posts are in here and I forgot I'm not supposed to post about that stuff here.

Really depends on what kinda budget you have. You're going to pay more for 2x 74gb raptors but raid0 is pretty fast. The only problem with that is it's only ~150gb worth of space, but some pretty fast space = P

the simple fact of having 2 hard drive instead of one does help a lot.

Best overall performance will be with the 74 raptors in raid 0. Of course the 150 raptor is the fastest, I don't beleive it will be as fast as the 74's in raid 0.

a single WD740ADFD would be the fastest single drive
what areas are you looking to increase performance in?

I am very happy with my single raptor and sold my second one because it did not help me enough to even notice.

I'm looking mostly for desktop performance increase like faster start-ups and shut downs, faster loading etc. Any performance increase in games is just an added bonus and not my primary target.

EDIT:I didn't expect this thread to go on since it's in a wrong section, so you might also want to check this (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=111443)thread I created in General Hardware. It's basically the same (with different replies of course).
