View Full Version : P5B Deluxe => can it run memory at *less than* 1:1 ?

Hi all
Cant seem to find an answer to this anywhere.
If I put a E6400 in a P5B Deleuxe and [theoretically] hit 500FSB, does the
P5B Deluxe have a Memory Divider setting / option that will allow me to run my memory at *less than* 500 FSB ?
Thx,
Ben

didn't see this possibility in 0502 and 0507 bios
anyway Conroe don't really like going lower than 1:1.
so don't cheap out the memory.

No support for less than 1:1

What about this that I just found:-
http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2797&p=5
Supposedly then, the P5B Deluxe offers the following memory timings:-
" DDR2 at Auto,400,533,667,800,889,1067 "
If this is right:-
- what does the AUTO setting run the memory at ?
- wont a 400 memory setting run the memory slower than the FSB ?
Thx,
Ben

the lowest setting is 1:1 going on up, so no dividers, with any of the bio's I've tried on my board

965 chipset does NOT support below 1:1.......already stated.....

Many thx .........
Damn though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So there are two options:-
(A) => get a 965 P5B Deluxe that will do say 500 to 550 FSB
** AND THEN SPEND A FORTUNE ON +1000mhz DDR2 ? **
or
(B) => get a 975 P5W-DH that will do say 400 to 470 FSB and then
utilise some [say] Corsair Value Select DDR2 and use a sub-1:1 divider ?
(A) = stupid amount of money in order to fully exploit Conroe's full potential
(B) = spend less money but fall short of exploiting Conroe's full potential
I just *CANT BELIEVE* that 965 boards cant run their memory at sub-1:1 - surely
this could be fixed with a BIOS update / fix ?
Is there even any *cheap* DDR2 1000 ?
This has *really* pi#### me off !!!!!!!!!
Again, many thx for clarifying this.

just get a p5b and some team group 667 or 800 ram that easily overclocks over 1000, tankguys has em, and rather cheap compared to the 1000+ kits, my 667 3-4-4-8 ram does 1060 with ease:D

by far some of the best memory on the market today. And the prices are very resonable.

so that's not your OC?
they cost the same in Australia as G.Skill HZ and HZs are proven overclockers........:)
keep in mind also that's AMD platform.....sure as hell clock great though....hahha :)

" ...... umm, might i sugest getting a p5wdh and running 4:3 ? ..... "
Thats actually the dilemma - I would if P5W-DH's had any sort of 500 - 550 FSB "track-record" - looks like Asus is putting all its high FSB development into the 965 P5B Dlx - the P5B Deluxe's are increasingly getting 500 - 550 FSB with newer BIOS's.
I'm not aware of any P5W-DH's that are getting 500 - 550 FSB. Newer BIOS's on the P5B Deluxe's seem to be improving the boards max. FSB each time - I dont see this with the P5W-DH.
And thats the dilemma.
I want max. cpu FSB / O/C, so looks like I am going to start having to research same decent "cheap" ram that does 1000 / 1100 ...
Damn ...... what a pain ...... and I was just about to order my parts before this arose.
Still, best to know this before forking out the $$.

Just found this stuff:
Corsair TWIN2X1024-8500 DDR2
- 1066 / 533 FSB
- 5/5/5/12
$360 AUS / $215US
To max. out my Conroe, I think this is just what I am looking for.
Why arent more people mentioning or using this DDR2.
To my way of thinking, for the price, its simply ridiculous value.
Thoughts ?
