I'm looking to do this meself. I've got a full how too but in German here. (http://www.robot4u.co.uk/bits/tyank8wevolt.pdf)
I've translated it into Yoda English but need someone compedent to read through it to make sure it's ok before I get me soldering iron out. You'll need to look at the pdf to cross check the pics.
Over to yoda....
Tyan K8WE volt Mod guidance
CPU 1
For the voltage regulation of the CCUs two MP-PWM CONTROLLERs were blocked by Intersil: ISL6559 The first CONTROLLER, which is responsible for the CPU 1, is to be found in the following picture in the red marked place:
The CONTROLLERs in close-up:
In the following picture are the individual solder point marked, red at the SMD resistance for potentiometers, orange at the SMD condenser for the measuring point and blue at the bright solder tack for the common ground of potentiometers and the measuring point: #
I recommend to use 50 KOhm a potentiometer, in connection with 3.3 kOhm a pre-resistor. there are 0,13 micron Opterons during rated voltage of 1,5 V no jump and with 3,3 kOhm a max.
voltage of 1,9 V. is selected the pre-resistor smaller, is possible for voltage up to 2,2 V. One can naturally also omit the pre-resistor, is only a protection from finish turns of the potentiometer.
With 0,09 micron Opterons with a rated voltage of 1,35 V we have with 50 kOhm a jump of Is 0,05 V. the rated voltage then accordingly about 1,4 V.
One can also use 100 kOhm potentiometers around the jump to escape, the precision that Regulation worsens then naturally. CPU 2 Location:
The CONTROLLERs in the close-up:
Solder point; blue = ground, red at SMD resistance = potentiometer, orange at SMD condenser = measuring point: Hyper+transport left For the voltage hyper+transport on the left of linear a modulator CONTROLLER of Richtek, RT9174 is used. Location: CONTROLLER in close-up:
In the following picture are shown the solder point. Red at pin 5 of the RT9174 for potentiometers, orange at Mosfet for the measuring point, and blue to the bright solder tack for common ground:
I recommend 50 kOhm potentiometers with a pre-resistor of 200 ohms. About 50 kOhm is those Rated voltage of 1,2 V without jump on. Max. 1.6 V with 200 ohms. More like 1.5 V I did not become give. Northbridge For the voltage regulation of the Northbridge a PWM CONTROLLER was blocked by Intersil: ISL6520A location: CONTROLLER in close-up:
Solder point: red = potentiometer at pin 6 of the ISL6520A, blue = common ground at the large bright Solder tack, orange = measuring point at pin 8 of the ISL6520A: 100 kOhm potentiometers, pre-resistor 15 kOhm. Rated voltage without jump with 100 kOhm = 1.5 Vth max. ones 2,0 V with 15 kOhm. With a still smaller pre-resistor approx. 2.2 V are possible, but not too recommend.
AGP/PCI e As voltage regulator a dual PWM CONTROLLER was blocked of Intersil, ISL6539: CONTROLLER in close-up:
A somewhat difficult venture here with the close area at the thin pins of the CONTROLLER the solder point too set, but nevertheless feasiblly. At pin 4 of the ISL6539 the measuring point = orange, at pin 10 potentiometers = red and common ground follows in a separate illustration:
The ground: Screw simply earth cables on also… Thus I recommend 100 kOhm potentiometers with to 22 kOhm a pre-resistor. Rated voltage without jump with 100 kOhm = 1.6 Vth max. ones 2.0 V with 22 kOhm pre-resistor. GDR 1 Two dual PWM CONTROLLER of Intersil, ISL6227 are used The first CONTROLLER, which is responsible for GDR 1 bank, is to be found in the following picture in the red marked place:
CONTROLLER in close-up:
No longer completely as with difficulty as with the ISL6539, but one should not on it nevertheless respects pins to short circuit. Something modestly photographed, the photographer did not know probably so quite which thing was. Similarly as with the ISL6539: Pin 4 = orange, pin 10 = red, ground wire screw on: To recommend I can do a 1 kOhm or 5 kOhm potentiometers with a pre-resistor of 100 ohms. The 5 kOhm potentiometer does not give a jump in the rated voltage, but the regulation is precise as as not completely with the 1 kOhm potentiometer. The 1 kOhm potentiometer causes however for it a jump in the rated voltage of Kind of condition 2.6 V to 2,7 Vth max. ones 3.2 V with 100 ohms.
