OK. I need some help.

Until recently I have been running a single 160GB SATA HDD and a Pioneer DVD+-RW. Last week I realized that the 160GB was filling up so I installed a 120GB PATA that I had in another computer not being used.

My problem is this, it appears that the secondary IDE channel (marvel chipset) doesnt work. I had the 120GB on the second channel and it kept lagging, freezing or giving me a 'delayed write error' whenever i tried to read/write from it. Swapping the HDD to the frist (intel) IDE channel makes it work fine. Putting the DVD on the second channel results in a similar problem to the HDD, it takes along time to access anything and often freezes up.

Up until installing the second HDD i had the marvell chipset disabled in BIOS, I have since enabled it, but even tho the HDD/DVD will display in windows when connected to the second channel it appears that none of the marvell channels display in bios (is this normal?). Now with the marvell chipset enabled in bios whenever i log into windows it tells me a PCI device has been found and asks for 'Marvell 614x' drivers, installing these appears to do nothing (i have tried drivers of the asus CD and their website) because even if i install them the HDD still doesnt work properly, and the same 'found new PCI device' message appears whenever i restart windows. Not installing the drivers has similar results?

So I have a few questions:
1. Do i need to install the drivers from DOS (there is a 'MakeDisk' folder with the drivers I downloaded from asus.com)? Is there anyway I can do this without a floppy disk drive?

2. Do i need to enable/change something else in bios? If so what (I have had a look but cant seem to find anything that helps)?

3. I dont really want to update my BIOS (I have never done this before, and am not really confident in my ability to do it) but if I need to do it i will? What bios do people recommend?

4. Could it be that the MOBO is borked?

Well, apart from that, anyhelp would be appreciated? Thankyou all in advance...

Thought there may have been a few more P5WD2-e users around here?

Anyway, since writing this I have updated the BIOS to 604. It seems to have fixed the 'new PCI device' message popping up and asking for drivers? However i still get this error (http://members.iinet.net.au/~shnorque/error.PNG) whenever trying to copy from the 120GB HDD...

Yes, I have installed the XP drivers - however as I mentioned whenever I boot into windows it asks for the drivers again (although the BIOS update appears to have stopped this).

Have had a few guys elsehwere mention that the Marvell chipset is pretty random and getting HDDs to work properly on it is difficult? Can anyone confirm this?
