i need a core 2 duo board for around 150ish. I don't need SLi, and I don't need crossfire. I am open to almost any chipset.

ohh and did I mention that I want to hit 366-367FSB almost guaranteed so it needs to have typical FSB capping around 370-375ish or higher.

searching around, considering this
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=322345&prodlist=pricegrabber

just entirely unsure of it in terms of max FSB

your current options on the market are:

Asus P5B Vanilla:

or

Gigabyte DS3:

(please don't get the S3 model)

which of those two is generally hitting the higher FSB?

also, what about the Biostar TForce P965? anantech is saying they were able to get it to 364 and that an aditional BIOS revision might help(max FSB testing resulted in 379).

or shoudl I wait for nf5? speaking of nf5, when is it due?

OMFG!

I don't get what you're saying, but am I expecting too much or soemthing? I mean I know I am kinda pushing it a little on the pricing, but there is no way I'm shelling 250 at a board.

i think he is disappointed that there have been probably hundreds of topics extremely similar to this and that "everyone knows" that the board you want for $150 is the gigabyte DS3

I'm relatively innexperienced on the intel side. I had kinda been looking at that BIOSTAR board.

I also want the motherboard to last, so that means little if any voltage increasements to the nb.

and hey, I'm not horrible, I did go fairly well with my opteron system, though I do recall yours beat mine in superpi by liek 1.5 seconds with only .2V more...

Another thread was not needed. Read the forums, formulate your own choices, and you will find threads pointing to the ds3 and the p5b as your $150 options, anandtech says the Tforce is good? Buy it and try it, then let us all know.

If you keep reading the forums you'll learn a great mod to take the fsb bus on the p5b further...

Buy a board come here and read about your toy, when a strange and wonderful problem that isn't covered at all here turns up, by all means post it.

I dont even own a Conroe, yet I know the answer already. There are sticky posts, don't people ever bother to read them?

i just ntoed that the DFI infinity 975X dropped in price a fair amount.

is it worth the extra 50$ I noted that anandtech said they got a fair amount out of the FSB 383(I assume on stock voltage) and my aim is 366/7 on stock or near stock voltage as I want to run it 24/7 for a significant period of time.

The DFI board is terrible right now if I recall correctly. Go with the DS3 if you're planning on a E6400 or E6300, or get the P5B Deluxe (places have it for $205 last time I saw). If you play on a E6600 or greater, go with 975X chipset if you plan to OC and get a P5W DH Dlx or the MSI board, don't remember the name but people seem to be getting good results on it, and it's in the $200 range.

EDIT: MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Edition

or wait for dfi to come out with the lanparty ut rd 600... it is the best overclocker of them all (ati claims)
or if u dont wanna wait, get the P5W DH Deluxe... around 230$ at ajump.com... fairly good deal
just a side note: if ur going to do conroe, do it right.... u wont be saving any money here!!! :p:

hey, I just want to get the best ona limited budget and am looking for input. This system is going to be lasting a while and I don't want to push anything too hard.

out of curiousity when are rd600 and nF590 out? if it's a week I'll wait, a year, I'm over it.

and also, it could be worse, I've saw someone link to an s478 board on a thread where someone was asking for a cheap a64 motherboard

it might be out 15-30 days
also, nf590 should alredy be out (mabee wrong)
if this comp is lasting a while, u will need a future-proof mobo to support r600
the dfi UT lanparty RD600 SB600 is the way to go then
better start saving money, rumors say msrp will be up 260-290 or so

Yes, but just by going into the Intel section I can almost promise you I could pick out 8 threads (if not more) about mobos and the names of them in the titles.

And I think end of this month or next month, not sure though.

there is no such thing as futureproof and by the time I would need CF support on r600(I plan on getting 1, with a 1, not a 2 though) i could probably pick up a better board for 150ish and have two boards... I mean look at the past, who really looks at 3 year old boards. Oldest boards most people look at are nf4 based and well those are only like 1.5 years in age...

regardless, if it is out very soon, I will likely be getting that horifically overpriced peice of greatness... it's in about the time it woudl take to get 2 paychecks and i have enough to complete my base system as off now so add 200$ to that... don't want to spend everything on electronics though... I have a life(sorta, I think conroe will remove all hope though, will be no getting me away from the screen)

EDIT::eek2: just saw review... 420 FSB easily... WOW... WOW... WOW...

might be dropping to an e6400... did I say might... i mean WILL

not anymore according to Coolaler http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=111725

with the new bios coming out tomorrow Coolaler says the DFI will boot easily at 435mhz
