View Full Version : How to overclock FSB to 550MHz on P5B-Deluxe

Test Configuration:

CPU: Intel Conroe Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86G
Memory: CORSAIR CMX1024-9600C5
GeIL PC2-6400 GX22GB6400PDC

H/W changes: High FSB needs high Chipset core voltage

http://www.iamxtreme.net/andre/P5B-Mod/01.jpg

Decrease the resistor value will increase Chipset core voltage.
For example:

http://www.iamxtreme.net/andre/P5B-Mod/06.JPG

To get above voltages, you should select the “NB Vcore” item to “1.65V” in BIOS Setup Utility.

Sweet! So we put a 5k VR on that resistor and lower the resistance to get more vNB?

Plz this mod is not so hard. All you need is to solder a wire to the resistor. Now if you would need to solder a wire to a small pin it could be chalenging. I only solder to the pin if there is no alternative. Usualy i try to search for continiuty from the pin to resistor and solder to resistor instead. Anyone with basic soldering skills and $8 low power soldering iron can do this mod;)

Hi AndreYang & tanghiro

I'm still waiting on my P5B Dlx.

Two quick questions please

( i ) Can you please post a picture of the completed mod ?

( ii ) Can you please advise the highest FSB you can get when using
just 1.65v for the MCH ?

[ Reason I ask is that BIOS 0507 allows MCHv up to 1.65, so for those of us that are poor / shaky solderer's, I'm wondering how high a FSB 1.65v will get us ? ]

Many thx,
Ben.

shipping bios I could max out at 400MHz, 0405 I could max out at 400MHz (limited by locked multies), 0507 will only give me 505MHz though I'm sure it will go higher if I get rid of the N/B passive heatpipe.

Could you plz post the info requested above as im about to order two of these bords for new setups paired with E6400's and TEAMgroup DDR2 5300 kits, but still don't see how exactly to do the mod.

-What voltage for MCH did you guys use to get 550fsb ?
- could you please post pics of a more general (zoomed) out view, as the only pics i have seen show a wire or two attached to the resistor, not an overall view of the completed circuit?

Here is my elite image manipulation for 1.65V , is it right at all ?

No I don't think it's bad at all... 266MHz out to 500MHz thats pretty good, I'm just trying to make the point that as I got to 500MHz @ 1.45v to the N/B any more volts gained nil mhz, that could and I stress the word could mean heat is a factor.

I wouldn't be sawing anything in half, particularly your mobos heatpipe, leave it be, but if your a compulsive tinkerer, remove it and replace with whatever, buy some ram sinks for power mosfets.

I presume this resistor is suitable:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2201&doy=17m8&C=SEO&U=strat15

Then solder the relevent pins (leaving the top one unconnected ?)

Once installed do you incease its resistance to max then turn it down until the voltage measured goes up to 1.65V ????

My retail board is hitting 540FSB at 1.65V, 525FSB at 1.45V. I have a modded ES board arriving that is suppose to do up to 600 although it will require a heck of a Northbridge cooler. ;)

Well yeah that seems to be the issue- total frequency still matters. Still it is nice to know this mobo can max out a E6300 chip with 7x multi. My DS3 will likely need the 8x multi of the e6400 to reach the true potential of the allendale core.

nah man even this board is not even close maxing out really good E6300 CPUs....... well at least not my mobo...the chip is priming happily at 1.38v on 3.6GHz.......this chip would most certainly go to 4Ghz but my mobo is not even close to 571MHz FSB :(

My best FSB on an unmodded P5B Deluxe = 520FSB X 7 for 3.64:

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6011/p5b520fsbqy5.jpg

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=114761

522 is where instability starts to crop up and 529 will freeze my system in the BIOS. The board will actually do a flat 500 x 7 with just a slight bump to the vcore, 2.25 on the memory and auto on the NB.

Dividers are terrible with the 0507 BIOS. I am pretty much required to stay 1:1.
