** EDIT - someone kindly moved this post to the right forum.. I had been searching in completely the wrong place and trying to decipher the detailed specs in the bandwidth forum! Now that I've found this Storage & Memory sub-forum, it seems there's plenty of relevant info here. Thanks!!**

Oriiginal post:

Okay, I'm a newbie; I can admit that. I've been reading so much about DDR2 and D9 and Elipida and all this stuff that my brain is melting. Can someone please have mercy on me and point me in the right direction to meet the following goals:

1) DDR2 for an Asus P5W DH, Conroe E6600 at 350-450 FSB
(yeah, I know... humor me... I might get lucky) :-)

2) Ideally less than $150 per 2GB kit after any rebates.

Your wise counsel is greatly appreciated!

- Jeff

1) use search function
2) is $10 too much of a stretch?

Thanks for the reply; I'm happy to search and have been reading for hours. :-)

I guess I'm just overloaded with too much information, too many choices, and too little knowledge -- I can't seem to translate all that great data into a useful solution for my specific situation. I'm sure it's not helping that my own (cranial) memory was manufactured back in the 60's. Must be DDR minus 5 or something...

Thanks also for the link. I can stretch the price a little bit if needed, although the "open box" nature of that particular memory worries me a bit.

Any other kind soul have a recommendation?

Patriot DDR2-LLK, it's DDR2-667 at stock, but it's just underclocked DDR2-800...

Don't skimp. Get some good 1gb instead.

Alas, too late. I pulled the trigger on the Patriots; memory was the only part of my build that I was still waiting on. Every review I could find said they went to 900 easily, and frankly it's not likely that I'll take them much past 800.

(I'm such a novice at overclocking that I'll be quite lucky to get 400 FSB on my P5W DH / E6600. Since I also want 4GB total for Photoshop, the extra $160 is significant... enough for a nice fat HD.)

Thanks again for the advice, everyone! Now grab some popcorn and get ready to watch the newbie crash & burn... If there's actual smoke, I'll be sure to post a vid. :D
