I just bought this and it will be here Friday a long with my OEM E6600. Does the OEM E6600 or the Scythe Mine come with any type of thermal compound or will I need to purchase some?

If I remember, the Scythe Mine come with some kind of paste I wouldn't trust.. Don't really remember since I always trash the paste that come with coolers.

get some Arctic Silver paste.. if you invest in a cooler, invest in thermal paste.

Yeah my buddy bought some arctic silver for his build so I will probably use that.

the question should be "Should i use it if it comes with it?" and the answer would be "no."

That's total B.S.

If you want the absolute best OC potential then lap the CPU and HSF up to 2000 grit on a granite plate and use a high end thermal compound like AS5. (CPU warranty will go "poof" instantly).

If you're not aiming for the "stars" then factory thermal compound is far from deficient. The difference between a thermal compound provided by the HSF manufacturer and something like AS5 is only a degree or two.

Most people screw up the application of thermal compound by applying it way to thick which negates any advantage in using the premium stuff.

P.S. Yes I use AS5 but I also have a granite surface plate and lapping paper. It's the entire process vs. one specific product.

if u use the paste that comes with it, it will be .3 celsius higher than if u used AS5. the question is, are u willing to take that risk?

none of that changes the fact that you should use AS5 as opposed to the factory compound... and it's usually 3 degrees celcius, give or take one, so that's a substantial difference IMO.
