Hey guys,

I was just wondering out of the top air coolers (BT, Sythe Ninjra, Tuniq Tower..etc)

has anyone had experience with mounting a gigantic cooler on IHS'less cpu.

Anyone know if XP90 or 120 can be mounted on ihs'less cpu, as I am afraid to use HEAVY cooler on bare die.

Any help apprecaited.. Thanks :)

i have a BT mounted on my s754 without any problems. Any cooler that uses the screw down method will work just fine.

I've just cut off the IHS off my Opty 165 which resulted in an almost unbeliavable 17 - 20C temp drop for core0 which used to be ~15C hotter than core1 full load, now it's even a few degrees cooler than core1 lol.

I use a Big Typhoon but I would be too scared to run without any pads so I took some rubber ring that comes on top of the CD/DVD spindles and cut it in small pieces and cut them in half to reduce thickness to ~1.5mm and used contact adhesive to easily glue em into place without any flow and it was PERFECT.

Any cooler that you can screw it supports CPU without IHS, take only care to not screw to much... Or you get a cracked CPU without IHS...;)

Big Typhoon on my IHS less FX60 and T2600.

Its very easy to NOT get a good mount, and a good mount is over half the battle, regardless of cooling.

Take the time to fully mount it, and take it apart to look for contact.

My T2600 doubles up on the plates and uses the larger nuts to tighten the plate down.

My FX has the plate so tight, It looks like a C and not a |.

Good mounts need PRESSURE!, just make sure that that pressure is even :)

If you get intimidated, dont feel badly about getting some electrical tape or something to make a shim!
