Stay clear of this board and wait for a good Nvidia 590 SLI board.
I would go the DFI route or ABIT if i were you.
Asus seem to be lacking on with thier boards lately. I think its because they are more concerned about getting products out fast than getting good products out. You've got a 1.2GHz overclock out of a 2.6 chip on a above-average (but not the best) heatsink/fan and the board is suddenly crap?

I've been trying to OC this board to boost fps in games, my components are:
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900XT 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI/AVIVO (PCI-E)
Corsair Twin2X 2GB DDR2 (2x1024MB) XMS2 6400
Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4ghz
I made it to a 366 fsb with only a small boost to the vcore and I havent really tried higher. My issue is to get anything above 295 I need to turn off hyperpath 3 and this means I loose around 900~ 3dmarks (06), OCing up to 366 will recover me around 150~ 3dmarks (06).
Is this normal behavour it seems that OCing above 290 with HP3 off isnt worth it if your PC is built to play games rather than crunch calculations?

I dont know where you learnt maths :slapass: but accourding to the school of rock :party2: that i went too 3.6 Ghz (Overclock) minus 2.66 Ghz (Default) equals 940 Mhz. :stick:
 And yes im sorry i should have changed by Sig as i dont have this OC anymore due to the board being a POS and me :bsod: it.

Bragging rights really but it'll come in terms a 3dmark score not how many seti units I have processed in the last week.

Hummm.. I cant wait for DFI to come out with a good 590 chipset mobo. This board is rather frustrating. I want to be able to rum my memory @ the right timing and not SPD.

You can run it with right timing, just need more volt.

I have had nothing but trouble with my setup lately...
Seems that these boards do not like USB devies at all... Especially keyboard mouse combo like teh Logitech MX5000 BlueTooth...
Every time I try to boot up, I get either my k/board or my mouse not working & then only after several reboots do both work ok...
I do have legacy USB Devices enabled in teh bios as having it on auto or disabled in teh bios just does not work...
My current setup is:
E6400 (8x355 2.84GHz @1.5v)
P5W DH
Corsair 6400C4 2 x 1gb
600w (no namer)
7800GTx 256MB
2 x 250GB SATA
DVD-RW/DVD-Rom...
I have followed this thread closely & am using teh 1305 bios although I have tried every other bios there is out there cept for teh 0701...
Could be a board issue with USB anyone??

Hello all , Long time lurker first time poster.
I have a P5WDH DL and 2 Core 2 Duo's E6600/E6700 Both hit about the same wall on ths FSB. I have tried everything listed on page 1 along with some other random things , One question I have is what exactly is "Microcode Updation" ? Only reason I ask is because I have done testing . All testing really shows me is that with Micorcode Updation disabled Prime95 runs Stable @ a higher speed than with it enabled. Now you may call BS , but it works for me and I am not saying it actually increases system stabilty. Just maybe a fluke with Prime 95 based coding.
Also I cant believe the difference in windows stable volts and 2 instances of Prime 95 running stable. All my past chips really were close if you booted into windows , maybe one bump up.
Lastly to all the prospective buyers of this board , The Vcore drop under load is quite signifigant not to mention how much it flucuates around. I feel this leads to using more volts than are what is nessaccary to cover the lowest drop in Vcore. The board is very nice with many features and maybe the new revs have fixed this , Just sucks for the ones who have already purchased the board.
My 2 Cents

If your setting up a Raid on the intel chip on this board the correct drivers (ICH7R) can only be made by booting from the supplied drivers disk and having a floppy ready. If you try to make the Intel Raid drivers from the interactive disk in windows it will for some unknown reason make for you the ICH8R drivers. Thanks Maverik-sg1 for telling me about this.

I´ve got weird problem.
My Asus P5W DH powers off suddenly when overclocked.
Nothing seems to be overheating.
Anyone else? What might be fix?
Did same thing with my old P4 630 if I OC´d it over 3.7GHz.
Bios is latest 1305.
Might it be PSU related?
Now I´m testing FSB 360MHz with Orthos and everything is stable..
Damn hot, Coretemp says 74C and Asus Probe says 54C.

Seems to me most people are taking the wireless off the board completely. Loosen one screw and you are good to go. If you HAVE to have wireless on it on look for older or newer drivers that might fix your situation. Also - might not be specific to your case but flash the newest 1305 bios onto your borad. Can't hurt and is now the recommended bios.

Hello,
I bought this motherboard for my E6600 set up and i have been having major problems with my DVD rom and DVDRW drives being forced into PIO mode regardless of what i set it to in the bios or device manager.
This causes MAJOR slowdown whenever my disk drives are in use. For example, it took me 10 minutes to burn a CDR, it takes my old sempron 2-4 mins to do the same job, and my mouse is jittering all over the place. 1 of my cores will be @ 100% load while the other fluctuates ...... this is unbearable.
My system specs are as follows
E6600
P5W DH
2gigs OCZ GOLD XTC ddr2 800mhz ram
320gb SATA Seagate 7200.10 hdd
Lite on DVDRW
LG DVDROM
BFG 7600GT
OCZ Modstream 450w
I have used the main IDE port (blue one) and the one that is controlled by the Jmicron chip. The Jmicron only picks up my drives as SCSI and i cant seem to get anything installed when using that. And the intel controller continuously switches my 2 dvd drives into PIO mode regardless of what i try.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my IDE channels and disk drives through device manager, and that switches the drives to DMA mode but its pointless because as soon as i pu a disk into either drive, that drive will revert to PIO mode.
I have both drives set to DMA if available, i have them set to DMA mode in bios. Basically i have tried everything i could think of aswell as what i have been told by people over @ anandtech, but regardless of what i try nothing works.
I have also tried using different ide cables, my older disk drives etc etc.
My disk drives arent bad because i have hooked them up to my older computer and they are recognized properly and put into DMA mode, they are both brand new drives aswell.
I have also used my older drives in the new Core2 system and same thing happens.
This is my last attempt at solving this problem before i return this board.
Thanks.
I have exactly the same problem with my computer.

My two DVDR drives are stuck in PIO Mode and i have all the intel driver and the 1305 bios...

Thx a lot dude:toast:
I grabbed the latest drivers from the Realtek site (2kxp-8187(1221).zip).
When I installed them, Windows warned me that they are older than the ones from the CD. I said "Continue Anyway" or whatever... works much better- fewer disconnects.. however I do get a lag issue during gaming where my ping spikes to 200 ms and the game "rewinds" and I get pulled back to the spot I was standing a few seconds prior (Playing CS:Source).

Hi, I need some help about what RAM I should buy for this mobo. I have to add that the RAM is the most important part of my pc build for the tasks it is going to be built for (not for gaming).
I was thinking on the next Brands and Speeds (Ill need 4 GB):
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory
Model:F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory
Model:F2-6400CL3D-2GBGA
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory
Model:TWIN2X2048-6400C4PRO
About this last one, I dunno if this mobo supports epp technology or if it will help ram performance to be better.
Thank you very much for your help...

Despite the title of this thread, allow me to share my experience with this board. ;)
It has been working smooth as silk since day 1. I have had absolutely ZERO problems thus far. The board has the stock cooler on (did not even change the TIM). My E6400 is cmfortably sitting at 3.2 GHz. It is Pi 32M stable at 3.44 but the chip got bloody hot and almost hit 65 C !! I backed off because I did not want to toast it. :)
I think once I move to water, I can hit 3.44 stable on the CPU. In the SS, the RAM is completely taken out of the equation. The video card is a $200 x1800xl 512Mb which I flashed to an x1800xt. I have had no problems at all with the wireless card. I game online everyday and there are no problems with lagging or the network breaking down. Simply put, I have had a super smooth experience. :woot:

This board, with its 8-phase VRM actually has one of the most stable Vcore subsystems available. Compared to my old P5LD2 hosting a D 830, this board droops and fluctuates hardly at all. You have to bear in mind that the sudden current demand changes of a C2D are much higher than older CPUs, and it is a very difficult challenge for board manufacturers.

I had DVD drive speed issues that turned out to be problems with folding of the cable. If you aren't careful, you can get parallel runs of signals (due to flat folding over of the cable) that cause enough cross-talk to severely impact performance.
To the maximum extent possible, keep your CD/DVD cable flat, and if there are bends, make sure they are gently rounded, or sharp 45* folds. Any longitudinal folding of the cable will cause problems.
BTW, the blue connector is the right one to use.

Lawrywild, here's a problem I forgot to post earlier.
CPU-Z and SpeedFan report all Vcore voltages above 1.448 as 1.213 (take a look at the overclock threads, most screen shots show 1.213V).
As usual, Everest Ultimate reports correctly.

No, these are OCZ Gold PC5300 2 x 1Gb set. I am running them at 4-4-4-15 timings. Curiously, DDR2 800 will not allow me to POST, no matter what timings or voltages. I have to reset the CMOS (which is a PITA, given the location of the CMOS battery).

Mine disconnected and reconnected all the time also. I don't have spare access points and spare USB wireless cards laying around, so I wasn't able to troubleshoot extensively. In this particular location, I have (4-5) other networks visible, so this also complicates troubleshooting. My laptop works fine EVERYWHERE in the house.
I'm not in the mood to run CAT 5 everywhere in my house, so I ended up punting, and getting Netgear's latest powerline networking which has a true bandwidth of about 8Mbits/s, which exceeds my downlink Internet bandwidth. One advantage is that it ALWAYS works

Reading the voltage in the BIOS doesn't work for what I want to do,
must be read with an actual voltmeter.

Another problem to add to the list
When i set MCH to 1.65 (since the board refuses to boot into Win with anything above 400 Fsb) , a high pitched hissing noise came from the case , probably from a capacitor or something
After that , no post for a couple of restarts , then kept crashing at loading the HDs on POST
CMOS , took out battery , back in , bla..bla.. , boot with the sata HDs unplugged , default bios settings , now it works fine again ......
Seems like this board was only good for clocking my old 930D to 4.620 24/7 stable
Sucks for C2D tho
The funny thing is that , altho it cant go above 400fsb , it allows me to manually set the Ram timings

I just got the new rev today, and it is a much better overclocker - even at the same 1.65v mch.

Sounds to me like you haven't disabled Hyper Path 3. You need to do that.
Hyper Path 3 straps the north bridge to 800, which overclocks it and makes it run very hot. If you disable HP3, the 1066 strap is used, the NB runs much cooler, and you don't have to overvolt it until FSB 450 or so.

I got it disabled , plus all the usual adjustments have been made (pci exp. freq , pci clock sync , SPD timings etc.)
Still no luck
I'll prolly keep it till the DFI comes out , then its going to be used with a Pentium D . At least it did ok with my 930D

On a more serious note, have you tried disabling the onboard audio in the BIOS? Perhaps, the onboard audio isn't the root problem, but conflicting with something else. See if you system is stable without the onboard audio enabled.

Any oddities when running G.Skill pc2-6400 "bh" memory on it? man.. I was so ready for my crossfire rig to work last night.. I hoping for better success tonight. :)

so I take it I need 0614 if I have the deluxe/wifi edition? that's the only version of the board I could get my hands on.. I also saw some peeps with the same memory I have.. I have the 2gbhz stuff.. looks like it works well on this board. :)

Is there a working windows flashing utility that works okay on this board, or do you have to use afudos/bios ?

RTFM Springs to mind :slap:
Sorry couldn't resist, Yes there is.
Goto the Asus website under downloads select the MB type you have and you will find all downloads there. Its called AsusUpdate for Windows.
Just to be safe, have a boot disk with your backup bios on and make sure you bios scans the floppy drive first, or USB device if using 1.
Hm, upon cosideration I think I'll just use afudos and a floppy. Probably the safest way.

I am try to get my Audigy 2 ZS sound card to work on this board. It just doesn't work. I have disabled the onboard audio and tried slots 1,2 and 3 without success. From posts i have read, some people have managed to do this and others not. Is there a trick to it?
My board came with Intel chipset drivers 7.2.2. I see there is a V8 out now. Has anyone tried them yet? I'm going to solve the board overheating issue by using a Cooler Master CMStacker 830 case (great excuse to get one, it's enormous).
Thanks

what is ICH chipset voltage and what should I set it to?
it's like 1.05 and 1.20
how high can I go on MCH voltage with stock heatsink?
mine goes up to 1.85v
I want to remove that heatsink cover, but.. wouldn't that void warranty?

I've had no issues with this chip and board combo. One of the first things I did was change the multi from 11 to 12 for a 3.2 over clock. I've taken it as high as 13 and as low as 9 to play around with different settings. Using the 1305 Bios too.

Check in the BIOS to make sure that this drive is not at the top of the boot order. Perhaps, your machine is trying to boot from this drive.

I take it that ya DO have the Jmicron IDE enabled? and that if you want to boot off of this HD, you do have Jmicron boot enabled?
If above are true, and this is the only device ya have on that ribbon, try to pull the jumper (master set on the drive) all together. That's what worked for me on my WD drive..

Was running my new P5W (first two died, 2nd one mysteriously), testing my various memory to see if it performs better on this board (all but one stick did--my old board was crap with memory clocking).
So I go to push that one lame-duck stick (worst clocking of the 5 sticks I have too....), 470 4-4-4-8 is its usual 1M max, which it does fine. I push to 471 and run again....~6th instance it freezes (notice the freeze, not the typical error--and it didn't hard-off after a few seconds like a CPU error usually does), and this was ~450MHz short of my CPU's max 1M speed....system never comes back up, giving memory error post code (1 long, 3 short) with any of my 5 sticks of memory, in any of the slots. Tried a battery pull, still didn't come up after with the same testing techniques....:(
Anybody got a fix for a fubard board?

For some reason my USB ports are not detected within windows. I have tried to following things:
new board
latest bios
new CPU
new memory
new hard drive
new OS (have tried Win 32 and Win 64)
setting every USB setting within the BIOS this or that way to figure out what is disabling it
2 different OSes on two different boards with two different CPUs and two different sets of memory are having this issue for me
USB mouse and keyboard are detected within the bios and work fine to install windows. As soon as I get to the first time you see the desktop, bang, no USB. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??
This wouldnt be confusing at all if USB devices didnt work in the bios.... But they DO!
I hate to sound like a raving lunatic, but Im desperately searching for a fix for this issue. Ive tried everything that seems obvious to me... Everything is at stock right now and default bios settings... This is my first intel build and its been a total gong show so far...

Thanks Maverik-sg1 for telling me about this.

this 8.1.1 version improved the performance of the jmicron controller on this board. I have 1 drive attached to that controller and 4 to the ich7r, and the jmicorn was always REALLY slow. This was noticable in windows (windows would "hang" while trying to access the drive under certain circumstances, this is now gone). I was running 8.0.1 before (got it from the intel website).

The power down after oc feature still works, turns out I have to set a much higher vcore to boot with a lower multiplier. Really weird, & the 1 mb Pi results are slower @ 8 X 450 than 9 X 400 @ 1:1 4-4-4-12. I'm still playing though. This is the very reason I bought the new revision board so I can have FSB available:)

BTW, i havn't got my E6400 yet, i'm using my P4 640. But i don't think that would cause any issues, would it?
Thanks

I had no problems with AIBooster when i had my P5WD2 Premium, but it's almost unusable on my P5W DH Deluxe. I know the software isn't very useful in most aspects, i only use it for voltage control while i'm in windows, so i can use clockgen and setfsb te adjust the FSB (Before anyone calls me a n00b, i set the major settings in the bios first). When i click the link to open the tuning panel it gradually fades in, and is very laggy while i'm attempting to use it, and it completely freezes up as i'm adjusting anything, before i can even click apply.
I just wandered if anyone knew what was causing it, because i've seen a few people in this thread being able to use it.
Thanks lawrywild

Is the DOA usual with this motherboard? I have a ne board got it last week. But it whont start. The fans just spins a bit then it's dead again (milli sec). Have to push the powersupply on - off to be able to do the same thing again.
The PSU is okey, since I tryid it just before plugging al the components.
So ither it's the CPU, Memory or the motherboard. DOA or bad bios, I don't know...
The bios chip says:

really good news...but is the enable SPD to get o/c problem fixed also ?

I think that problem is dependent on your RAM - I have been able to set RAM timings and hit 400+FSB on both my P5Ws (67MOAG and 68 MOAG), using 1305 BIOS.
So as far as I am concerned it is fixed. YMMV.

No Mods. Newer revsion board that allows 1.85 mch. 450 is not easy though. 445 is much more easier to obtain. Been looking around for a some better cooling for the northbidge as I'm certain once I improve this, I can get about 470.

I stopped doing any serious overclocking with it. Its way too buggy. 450 x 8 also required more vcore than 400 X 9. I'm sure its the whole boot strap thing and the tighter timinngs this board uses. If I were to invest in some DDR 1000 I'm sure I'd be more successful.

Pull that foil vanity cover off and get a 40mm fan for it... also replace the factory crappy thermal goop with AS5.. that should be all the cooling you really need.. :) or go water..

I think my unstableness is caused by the tight timings trfc? this bios uses. Wonder what 1101 used then i could use memset to use them.

It doesn't seem to hang as much after setting overclocks, no additional memory options. Currently running 445 X 8 1:1. When cpu-z is loaded 256'c cpu temp bug still there.

The only thing I have to do different is use more vcore (1.525v) with 8 multiplier than needed with 9 (1.475v). If I switch back to 9 multiplier the same vcore passes orthos @ previous tested speeds (9 X 400 3.6ghz). My board will only do 1mb Pi above 440FSB so I don't consider that very stable. I wana overclock my E6600 on P5W DH Dlx and i have few questions,
-first thing i wan't to know what other settings do i need specialy to care about like PEG Link(which settings is best for PEG Link so mobo don't overclock my GFX) and how do i need to set them?
-how to reset BIOS if something goes wrong(any jumpers or something else(location?) and what to do with them?)?
-is it cool if i set PCI-E to 88Mhz and PCI to 33Mhz(any better settings)?
and one a bit off-topic questions but..., what are max safe temps on E6600, because on the Intel site it says not to go over 60 d. celsium, but i don't know due to which temps BIOS (Asus Probe,SpeeFan,...) or CoreTemp????

- you just restart usually fixes it or move cmos jumper

If you select it, it explains the use on the right. Apparently it's what controls the fan speeds to keep your system quiet, although I thought that's what Q-Fan was for. Perhaps it allows the remote to actually utilize the feature or can disable it.
"Slow POST (SATA Only Users) - If you're running all SATA drives (Optical and HDD) .. and are getting slow boot times mark the IDE ports and "not installed" in the bios .. saves you the 30sec detection time for each drive. [Credit - Silver Bullet]"
should that say "...mark the IDE ports AS "not intalled" in the bios"??
I have all SATA drives - optical as well as HD. They are listed as IDE Master and Slave in the Bios.... Is that correct?

I have the same problem, but I come to the conclusion that AI Booster is buggy and just plain sucks, so I disable it. Sometimes it show my clock speed as overclock by as much as 100 mhz, then it downclocks 200 mhz, very weird bug. I am now using Everest Ultimate Edition and the readings are correct.

Well I thought the same untill I tried the Intel Processor Identification Utility. Says my frontside bus is 1047 instead of 1066 and my cpu is running @ 2.35 instead of 2.4. These are the similiar results I see from AI Booster ,I am going to oc again and see what results I recieve in that situation.
Edit: as you see properties shows 3.15 ( fsb = 350 ) but both AI booster and Intel's utility show a very similar drop in speed .

I get the random freezing.... but I haven't linked it with any Asus software ... are you saying that after you install it, you need to reinstall windows, or just uninstall the programs from inside control panel? I can bench / orthos for all time, then do *anything* and it may lock .. like open a webpage .. or anything ...

Well yeah, everything goes nice, running 3Dmark 06, Internet Explorer, MSN,... as long as I don't have any Asus software installed. Once I install some Asus software my system starts to freeze randomly and not just once in a while but all the time, like every 2min it freezes 30sec or more. Then I reboot into save mode and use the system recovery tool to set the system back to a savepoint before I had installed the Asus software. And well it works well again and the freezes are gone. So yes I think it has something to do with the Asus software.

Seems like lower multipliers, higher fsb same clock take alot more vcore... Anyone else see that trend?
Because EIST change multiplier just before Windows;)
With E6600 you boot from BIOS with 8x400, so it is 9x400 to few seconds before it boot in Windows..
If your CPU is boot stable 1.5Vcore with 9x400, so it will never boot to Windows with 8x450 :)

I was able to get an extra OC by bumping the tRD parameter by one over the value set by the BIOS. I run my memory 3-3-3-12-5, and BIOS 1402 sets tRD to 5. I change that in memset to tRD=6, and get at least an extra 10 MHz FSB (didn't test more). The other subtiming parameters made no difference; only tRD.
Memset 3.0 is out now. It has a "save" feature that autoloads your settings during the first login after the next reboot.

In miochza's signature Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.2 gHz 1.4625V so in that case it is multi 9 :stick:

huh? I don't get what your point is. He said lower multis require more vcore for same speed
and you said it's because EIST sets 9x400 before windows even if you set 8x400 in bios..
EIST can't set 9x400 if 8x400 is set in bios because EIST can only utilize the max multiplier SET IN BIOS.. (8x)

I am new here and if I should post elsewhere, let me know. I have a problem with my P5WDH that I am unable to find a post on. Since I first set up the board I have had trouble getting the video card to initialize during POST. If I keep rebooting, eventually it starts and then everything works great. The computer will POST (although all I can see are the HD LEDS) and load up Windows. I know this because I hear the music play when Windows boots up. But I have no video. I have a new Antec NEO 430 and have read of problems but the same thing happens with a Raidmax 450. It works everytime if I stick a PCI card in the motherboard. I'm not trying to overclock at all. I have a Conroe 6600, video is a year old Powercolor 800 PCI-Express (no external power), RAID0 with 2 Raptor 74s, 2 GB G.Skill 6400. I have flashed to 1305 BIOS but nothing changed. It happens most of the time when I restart from Windows and about half of the time when I power up the computer.

In windows you can use the asus adpdate utility.
1) launch utility
2) choose "options" in the drop down menu, click next.
3) Under enviroment settings check " Bios Downgradable" click next.
The utility will now return to the start point and you can choose an older or newer bios when you flash:D

somebody try'd 1403 bios already ??
I am trying it right now. It looks like i can overclock my e6400 to 3.2 with less vcore. Testing it now.

I'm running 1403 and I can confirm that lower multis work on my E6600. I didn't have much success running higher than a 400mhz FSB though so it wasn't worth it for me.

I can't install windows with intel's raid on this board. i made the drivers floppy with the asus cd in windows and I'm pretty sure it gives me the wrong drivers. I get a blue screen every time. Did anyone else have this problem or is there somewhere else i can download the drivers from?

i found a link on tom's hardware site. seems someone else had the same problem. stupid asus didn't include the correct intel drivers on my disc. my driver disc had intel raid ich8r instead of ICH7-R. i got ten blue screens trying to install windows over and over again thinking I was doing something wrong. I gave up and installed everything on two drives non-raid. now i'll have to start over and install from scratch. thanks asus! for over $200 you could at least include the right drivers. jerks.

I screwed up when I tried to install Intel RAID because the drivers that showed up were ICH8. I assumed they were the correct drivers. It turns out I needed ICH7R. If you scroll down the list on the floppy its is farther down. When I installed the ICH7 everything installed fine. You probably did this but you need to hit F6 early in the installation when it asks for drivers.

i only saw 4 drivers listed and the right one wasn't listed. i needed to hit down arrow and it's right there? jesus christ!

Ugh, yeah. Same thing happened to me, except Windows wouldn't even attempt to install. The raid couldn't be correctly seen with the wrong drivers. I ended up using the EZ-raid which is nice because I could also install Vista without worrying about drivers. But does the ICH7 raid perform better? If so I may end up redoing it.

I was successfuly able to get a ROCK SOLID 420FSB and 1:1 ratio, using much less voltage than someone above.
PCI Express FREQ: 110mhz
PCI Clock Cync: 33.33mhz
Mem Volt: 2.05v
CPU volt: 1.5v
ISB Term Volt (IMPORTANT!): 1.4v
MCH Chipset Volt (IMPORTANT!): 1.65v
I also manually set in the bios my mem clocks to 4-4-4-12.
This, however, could get your chipset temps up pretty high. Make sure you have good case cooling.

http://www.laughy.net/sc3.jpg
Keep in mind after doing this I reverted back to a 400FSB 1:1 ratio setup, which only requires a bit of extra CPU and Mem voltage, and nothing else (all of it on 'auto'). Just increase your mem volt until the text changes colors (I believe purple), then go one voltage step back. CPU I believe to be about ~1.45v. Rock solid.
This was all on latest bios (4103).

Wow, thx for the info, I finnaly booted at 400fsb. Every other time I would have to clear my cmos if I tried (endless boot cycle, couldnt post). Its weird how 400 was the magic number cause I could boot into 399, but 1 more and bam, clear the cmos. Guess its time to figgure out which setting it was. Oddly enough I suspect the 110pci-e setting because I had tried the others....

For everyone having problems with their DVD/CD drives on the Intel IDE port - the blue one - check that none of the pins are missing, bent, or pushed in. A poster on another forum was having PIO mode issues with his DVD drive and noticed this very problem, after spending days troubleshooting.

MHC voltage needs to be up around 1.55 or more I found when you get to 400fsb just to boot! for stability 1.65 was necessary for me at 400+.
What's the verdict on the 1403 bios? good enough to make the switch from 1305?

Only if you want to use a downward multiplier to find your max stable FSB. It has no performance gains etc. Though the next bios did allow me a higher benchable clock, but not orthos stable.

That's odd, cause like I was saying before I get a very stable 400FSB x 8 overclock with just a small increase in CPU and Mem Voltages, and nothing else.

I have the rev1 board, maybe they're a little more fussy about it? anyways.. mine would not boot with 400 fsb unless I got mch to like 1.55 at least.

Hmm, it seems like my boot problem has something to do with the multiplier option. If I leave the mp of my E6600 on 9, 386fsb can post. If I set it to eight or less, then the screen stays black. This is probably a bios issue then...

Yes . This happens when you change the multiplier to a lower one . It's what i get also .
An one other thing ... The multiplier doesn't seem to change at all.
Try to change to 8 and boot to memtest+ . You'll notice that the CPU speed is with 9X multi .
I tried some DOS benchmarks and the change of multi doesn't change anything.
So , i'd say that the multiplier option is broken .

The explanation is that the multiplier at bootup is 9x, and then the bios changes it to what you set in the bios:

well The Nemesis doesn't have bios 1404. I think it's pretty lame that he claims to have it and then sends me a 219kb file of Y's name p5wdh 1404.rom. Just to say, I wouldn't go near this guy if he ever tries to sell you anything, basically don't believe anything he says.
Just a little warning..
All the rom files look like that depending on what software you use to look at them. I think it's kind of silly to go to all that trouble just to deceive you-- don't you think? What does he possibly have to gain by getting "lawrywild" cred?
Anyway, did you try loading it up with Asus Update (the Windows version) so it can at least tell you what version the Bios is-- I hope that you verified it was bogus by more than just looking at it with a hex/text editor.
Also sounds likely that the file didn't get sent completely.

I have the same problem with my machine, and it's driving me crazy. Natalia has the same issue with her P5WDG2 as well. I am trying to track down the common factor between these boards (besides that they are from Asus).
So far, one of the possible culprits could be the Raptors in RAID0. She has 2 Raptor 150s in RAID0. I also have 2 Raptor 150s in RAID0. You have 2 Raptor 74s in Raid0.
Which RAID controller are you using? The Intel one, or the JMicron one?

email servers don't send incomplete files because they would never get the command to send it if it didn't finish
Please explain how you can open Attachments: P5W-DH-ASUS-Deluxe-1404.ROM (164.0 KB)
a tiny little file in asus update?
oh and PS:
If I open a REAL bios file in internet explorer the Y's change into more detailed code
If I open this POS, it shows the same Y's.
Now tell me it isn't fake :stick:
lawry, there are a dozen reasons why a file wouldn't be complete-- he could have attached a partial FTP download, or something. All I'm saying is that it's kind of ridiculous to say you have something, and then deliver something fake, unless you offered to send him money for it or something.
I can't make a judgement either way on the file, but a PM to Nemesis saying, "Hey, this file doesn't look complete/wrong" is better than calling him out publicly and saying don't ever buy or trust this guy.
It's not like he cheated you-- you didn't send him money did you? Anyway, getting way off topic here. Bottom line: It sounds like you got a partial file. Reasons why it could be a partial file are numerous, only one of which (highly unlikely) is that he deliberately misled you for intentions unknown.
Once is a random occcurance. Twice is a coincidence. Three times, maybe, and there's a pattern forming. This could go a long way with some of these posts on these forums too. "A lightning bolt exploded outside, and my FSB can now be overclocked an extra 1MHZ!!!!! EVERYONE, GO PUT UP LIGHTNING RODS FOR MAXIMUM OC!!" :)

I finally fixed it! I bought a new video card (BFG 7600GT), put it in and everything works perfectly. I don't know why the old card wasn't "happy" on the motherboard. Good luck with your troubleshooting. In answer to your question, I am using the Intel RAID.

I admit to being a SATA noob since I'm upgrading from pre-SATA days  but can someone help.
I have WinXP booting fine on a PATA WD Caviar attached to the Jmicron IDE. But when I try to add my Raptor to any intel/jmicron SATA port to get it running as a 2nd data drive (I'll copy the boot image to the Raptor later), I get various errors. Either I get 'no boot drive', probably because BIOS detects the unformatted Raptor as the boot drive, or when I attach it to the EZ_RAID connectors there is a Secondary Master Hard Disk Error then an eventual boot to Windows but even then the Raptor is not recognized in Disk Manager.
I have tried IDE configuration setting SATA and the SATA+PATA in BIOS but no luck. How can I get a Raptor up and running with my PATA boot drive, without setting up a RAID?
Specs: Intel E6600 (week 28); Asus P5WDH ('new rev', bios 1305); G.Skill 2GBHZ; eVGA 7900GT KO; Seasonic S12 430W; Western Digital WD3200JB and Raptor 74GB; Asus DVD-E616A2; Pioneer DVR-111D; Antec Solo; WinXP SP2.

Maybe try running it off the slave drive ICH7R connectors which are the black ones, not red, and not the orange ones either. The two black SATA ports are for data drives (not boot) and those should be used for any non-raid extra disks. Then in your bios the IDE CONFIGURATION set "configure SATA as.." to "AHCI"... boot into windows from and reload the chipset drivers from the Asus CD.. the AHCI driver should load up and your raptor should work fine.

Thank you both for the quick responses. Somehow it's working now thanks to some fiddling in both those areas of bios and moving the raptor back out of the ez_raid ports. Another problem was the motherboard making my (obviously non-booting) USB memory stick the boot drive every time it was left in after a Windows reboot... ugh.
