Even with your suggested settings, 333 is no go with auto vCore! And I wanted to try increasing vCore, but I couldn't switch the C1E off (required); the only choice is Auto in BIOS 1901! Is it a known bug?

Clear BIOS.

Like I mentioned, you need to turn OFF auto vCore and set a voltage. A good starting point would be 1.45v, but with adequate cooling(water or intense air), you can probably begin with 1.60v and move your way down when you get a comfortable FSB.

The only settings you NEED to turn on in the cpu settings are Ratio Adjustment and Microcode update. Turn off the rest.

Resetting CMOS like geisher had mentioned may also be a smart idea.

As long as you need the upwards multipliers, stick with BIOS v1601.
As for the Vdroop, you can't do nothing ( except modding your motherboard :) )

P5WDH; Rev 1.02G (MCH 1.65 version); QX6700 @ 3.0G; FSB 300; OCZ2G10002GK
- sissy OC, but ultra-stable for work/home stuff

Updated BIOS from 2001 to 2004 using BIOS EZ FLASH 2 (ver 3)
- internal date: Mar 07, 2007
- no obvious changes from 2001
- fast flashdrive detect during EZ FLASH BIOS, as with 1901 and 2001
- slight buffered memory speed improvement, from 6023/6089 to 6148/6139 @ 500mhz memory bus; 3:5, Trc 21 (still not changeable)
- processor multiplier not tested this round
- no obvious change to idle or loaded temps

Is anyone able to boot from USB flash drives using bios 1901 through to 2004 beta.

I have issues booting from USB flash drives using bios versions from 1901 > 2004 beta, using any of these bios versions i can no longer boot from USB flash drives, this is with the USB options in th bios set to "Auto", if i set the USB option to "Force FDD" it will boot from USB flash drives.

The thing is, with all bios versions from version 0701 > 1801 beta the "Auto" option for USB devices worked fine, with bios versions 1901 through to 2004 beta the "Auto" option no longer allows be to boot from USB flash drives.

Also with bios versions 1901 through to 2004 beta, if i try to use the Asus Crash Free Bios feature (Alt + F2) with a USB flash drive the system goes in to a loop searching for devices from which to recover the bios, i have renamed the bios file to "P5WDH.ROM" as instructed but the issues still persists, even after removing the motherboard battery and clearing CMOS many times.

As i said earlier, these issues have only started since bios version 1901 and above, so, something has changed from version 1901 and above for this to happen.

Any feedback appreciated, thanks!

Well Forced FDD NEEDs to be on if you want to put as first boot device. But I don't need forced FDD enabled if I tap F8 at boot and select my usb key.

I see.. Wonder if it has any hardware enhancements for Kentsfield, etc. :eh: Intel XBX1 and XBX2 had some changes in traces, wonder if it's the same for the 1.03G vs. 1.04G on the P5W.

IIRC the newer 975X chipsets are more rectangular in shape (only seen where the factory/year/week code is 36**), whereas the older ones are square (I've seen L5**). If I'm not wrong the rectangular ones can clock better with lower vMCH? The 975XBX2 should be using the rectangular ones. Could anyone confirm this?

Hi all.
My mobo has behaved very nicely for almost 6 mnths now. Never experieced any issues with regard to RAM divider.

But suddenly the board has become unstable:
* sudden hangups (both during ingame and desktop/idle)
* RAM divider sets randomly at boot ( 266 / 333)
* Sometimes VERY hard to get to reboot (after a freeze)

In short, it looks like the board has gotten a mind of it's own lately..
Have a feeling this is a RAM related issue, but Memtest shows up nothing.

Maybe the droop-mod is starting to take it's toil:D

Any comments is higly appreciated.

I've been reading here for a while and just now it bothered me so much i decided to create an account...

Here is my config:

Asus P5W-DH Rev 1.04 Bios 1804. Removed covers for North and Southbridge. AS5.
C2D E6600 @ 3.402mhz (378x9) - 1.4375v. Zalman 7000B CU - AS5
Corsair XMS2 DDR800 @ 756 4-4-4-12 1.8v
Asus Radeon X1950Pro

I feel that my vcore is imuch higher than everyone else's at the same clock. If i put it down even just a bit it can't get stable in Orthos... With 1.435 i've gotten 24h Orthos stable. My E6600 is a L632B which are supposed to be pretty good for low voltage OC.

All other voltages not mentioned are in auto but I doubt this is related to vmch because most 1.04G can get 400fsb easily and I've tried raising my vmch and it didn't help.

My voltages after vdroop are 1.416 ~ 1.392 for idle and load.

I just want to lower this vcore because my cooler is pretty old and it really limits my OC. Changing coolers now is out of question as I just went bankrupt a few weeks ago :P

Any help will be appreciated :)

Khalmyr

A quick update here...

I've tried playing a bit and I could get stable at 425 x 8 = 3.4Ghz @ 1.4v

A huge improvement since I kept the clock and even raised the fsb.

vcore = 1.4000v
vmch = 1.75v

Something weird though. My sticks can do 800mhz 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9v. I've ran memtest and orthos when I had a better cooler and ran the CPU @ 400 x 9 daily.

Right now I have to run my memory at 4:3 @ 318mhz

If i try 1:1 which would mean 425mhz it won't get Orthos stable even after i've crancked the vmem up to 2.2v and changed the timmings to 5-5-5-15.

Pretty weird..

Any suggestions?

As most of you know by now, ASUS have locked multipliers on X6800/QX6700 (BIOS 1602 - 2001) and as we are approaching the launch of R600 and it's bench time again, I need to "downgrade" to 1503, 1506 or 1601 in order to get my system in bench modus again.

However, I am currently running BIOS 2001 and this does not let me revert back to any of the former mentioned. And for some reason I am unable to create a start-up disk and therefore cannot use the Afudos 2.17/2.11... The box where I am supposed to tick off the Start-up version is greyed out and I am just to stupid to figure out how to solve this.

Will BIOS 2004 let me "downgrade" or do I have to get my supplier to create a start-up disk (USB penn) for me with Afudos in order to revert? Or should I just buy a new MOBO and prey that the BIOS accompaning the board is downgradable or the right one... :p: Sorry to bother you guys but this is killing me...

- could NOT revert back to 1707 from 2004
- message: "... motherboard is older than firmware..."
- with 2001 or 2004 installed, reverting back to 1901, 2001, 2004 appears to work with BIOS EZFlash 2
- appears AFUDOS 2.11/2.17 is the only option for reverting back to BIOS older than 1901

the microcode is enable but the ucode error remains. Only with 3 bios (now) don't show the ucode error (1201,1407,1501). for multi in bios is unlocked(i have a qx6700) but only 2 cores ging up and the other 2 core remain with multi in default (10x) in windows. Use this program from HP to format your USB device to make it bootable. Once it's set, you can copy over your bios files and the afudos 2.11 program to it and boot.

URL to download here: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/serveroptions/us/download/23839.html

I've used this program to make my usbkey bootable for when I need to reflash my xbox 360. Works great!

I am very happy to stay here, into nice Expert and Extreme System Forum.

I have 1 matherboard ASUS P5W DH DELUXE, i have buyed 4 memory CORSAIR 1GB (total 4 gb), and i have used one bios the function on chipset, MEMORY REMAPPED on.
The bios see all 4 gb of memory, but my windows xp pro 32 bit, see only 3.12 gb.

Is possible remap all memory on system? or not?
64 bit system only allocate 128gb of memory?

Thanks a lot in advance all, and bye from italy.

No 32bit os will utilize over 3GB memory, everyone with 4GB has to install 64bit OS.
I have only 3GB and I instaled 64bit Vista beside my old 32bit XP.
Some programs work faster in Vista 64bit, WinRAR for example.
There is my memory at 4:5:

I ve a question to the guys that claimed about the degrading performance problem.

What was your MCH and FSB (most important) voltages??

I've been experiencing the same anomaly with my P5W64 WS pro board. Was running fine at ~400FSB and them "BAM" it reboots/BSODs when overclocked in the slightest, sometimes even doing a reboot after 5 mins from a cold boot-up. I kept on lowering the FSB and voltages to keep it stable until finally it had to be run at stock speeds.

The weird thing is that after 2 weeks running @ default speed, I have overclocked again reliably.

Its a very odd problem that I cannot get my head around.

I ended up at 410FSB just because my Corsair refuses to be stable at even 411. The lack of headroom for OCing must not bother Corsair since they want folks to buy the even-better memory, so I'm considering this a sad lesson about spending more than I want to to get that extra value...

If you have the same XMS rev 2.1 sticks as me it probably wont clock much cos it has ProMOS chips - some will but most wont. Only early rev of XMS 6400C4 had microns - check the chip list. I must be really unlucky because my XMS2 6400c4 memory has microns as the sticker on my modules says it's rev 1.1 and I can't get it to boot with FSB at 400 and manual memory timings of 4-4-4-12. Even at stock FSB speed, it doesn't work with manual memory timings of 4-4-4-12, maybe because the board has problems with the 2:3 ratio (is that correct ?)

Try 2.2v -These sticks should do 1000MHz plus no problem with about 2.3v-2.4v Check this review out - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/memory/display/ddr2-800_2.html

Another thought - have you removed NB/SB heatsinks and replaced paste with AS5. It all helps the overclock stability and keeps board cool. Your problem may not be the memory but the overall setting/volts you are using in the BIOS - please post them.

If I'm not mistaken, 2:3 is very problematic on this board when you start getting up in fsb speeds. I know you shouldn't have any issues doing 4:5 though (I've personally done it up to ~950ish fsb stable with my corsair pc2-8500s).

2.1v *should* be enough, however you may want to try 2.2 or even 2.3, however I'd highly recommend running a fan nearby to displace some of the heat that it will cause.

There was a great article I read the other day on cas latencies vs higher fsb with c2d cpus (but focusing on nforce680 chipset since you could asynchronously split cpu ram fsbs). One of the sidenotes was operating temperatures of ram and voltages required to hit the higher fsbs. I think at 2.2-2.4v, some of the sticks got up to the 50s or even 60s C!

Hi folks...

(Firstly apologies for the lengthy post :()
I've been scouring the net for an answer to this, and it's already been mentioned in this forum. Transfer modes. Basically I think there is some problem with my setup... Essentially I'm finding it difficult to deduce if my devices are working at the correct speed!
I've used SiSoftware Sandra XI to provide me with the following transfer mode details:

Intel Raid 0 Volume (SATA) on ICH7
Maximum PIO Mode : PIO-9
Maximum DMA SW Mode : SWDMA-6
Maximum DMA MW Mode : MWDMA-6
Current Active Mode : PIO-9

External Disk 0 (This is a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9) (SATA) on ICH7 (Orange port)
Maximum PIO Mode : PIO-4
Maximum DMA MW Mode : MWDMA-2
Maximum UDMA Mode : UDMA-6
Current Active Mode : UDMA-5

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 (SATA) on ICH7
Maximum PIO Mode : PIO-4
Maximum DMA MW Mode : MWDMA-2
Maximum UDMA Mode : UDMA-6
Current Active Mode : UDMA-5

WD Caviar (PATA) on JMicron
Maximum PIO Mode : PIO-4
Maximum DMA MW Mode : MWDMA-2
Maximum UDMA Mode : UDMA-5
Current Active Mode : UDMA-5

Samsung Spinpoint (PATA) on JMicron
Maximum PIO Mode : PIO-4
Maximum DMA MW Mode : MWDMA-2
Maximum UDMA Mode : UDMA-5
Current Active Mode : UDMA-5

Plextor 760SA (SATA) on JMicron
Transfer modes not listed (shown as SCSI)

LG DVD-ROM (PATA) on ICH7
Maximum PIO Mode : PIO-4
Maximum DMA SW Mode : SWDMA-2
Maximum DMA MW Mode : MWDMA-2
Maximum UDMA Mode : UDMA-2
Current Active Mode : UDMA-2

Plextor Premium (PATA) on ICH7
Maximum PIO Mode : PIO-4
Maximum DMA SW Mode : SWDMA-2
Maximum DMA MW Mode : MWDMA-2
Maximum UDMA Mode : UDMA-2
Current Active Mode : UDMA-2

Device Manager could only offer the following:
- Lists two devices on PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL as operating in UDMA-2 (Obviously the LG and Plex Premium)
- On SECONDARY IDE CHANNEL transfer mode "Not applicable"

I'm running WinXP SP2 on the RAID0, and as far as I can tell the two PATA opticals on the ICH7 are fine at UDMA-2 (??), and the two PATA HDDs on the JMicron should be at UDMA-6 not 5 (as it's spec'd as a ATA133 port). I can't find out what PIO-9 is, but it doesn't sound right! Also the Plextor DVD-RW drive on the JMicron seems to be sluggish sometimes, but I can't seem to find it's transfer mode and am worried as burning certified discs at 16x produces dodgy discs... Can anybody shed some light on why it all appears to be a little odd? (Also for some reason the PATA drives on the JMicron never power down like all of the others on the ICH7, why is this?)

Cheers,
Seb

quote from page 56 (I think)
I'm not sure that lower CPU multipliers really stress the 6800 more.
I think what happens is the CPU tries to complete its "power up" routines at the default multiplier (11), before the BIOS even initializes. That's why the X6800 won't post at lower multipliers and very high FSB unless you increase the vcore. The Nemesis already found this out. The vcore increase you need is equal to the vcore needed for posting at the exact same speed you would have if you were using an 11x multi (example: 400 FSBx9=3600 mhz, but would require the CPU to be able to low level POST at 400x11).

That's what I've found out; maybe I'm wrong.

You should be able to test this by using CrystalCPUID to change the multiplier in windows, from your normal stable overclock (let's say you are using 360x10=3600 or 328x11, and then a clockgen or setfsb or whatever to increase the FSB. (goal=400x9?) CPU should still work at the exact same voltage if the mhz remains the same. But it simply won't POST at 400x9 as it tries to post at 400x11.

Multiplier unlocking is done by the BIOS giving a command to the CPU to lower the multiplier, if I recall correctly, not by "writing" a new multiplier into the CPU flash memory or something like that. Otherwise the CPU would keep the lower multplier as default if you switched motherboards, which it does not. (correct me if I'm wrong).

How did I come to this conclusion?

Rather simple, actually.
my X6800 cpu posts and runs fine (dual prime stable) at 360x10=3600, 1.5125v. But put CPU at 370x10=3700, and the CPU won't even POST (which is unheard of for anyone doing a 100 mhz clock higher). If I increase vcore to 1.55v, it posts all the time. 1.575v for stability in windows/games.

That only makes sense if the CPU were actually trying to POST at 4070 mhz (370x11) at 1.5125v, before BIOS takes over and lowers the multiplier.
If this is true than my nice stable OC of 350 x 10 and 1.4000vcore would at least POST if I change the multi to 11 in BIOS, but it doesn't. In fact I have to raise the vcore to 1.4875 in BIOS to POST at 350 x 11.

Like I said 350 x 10 is perfectly stable dual Orthos 12+ hours. RAM settings stay the same as in my sig, but change multi to 11 and no POST, so maybe there is something else going on. I can POST and boot into Windows at 335 x 11 - 1.4000vcore but it is not stable in Orthos.

I had this same problem when I first got my board. After trying everything I could think of, it turned out to be a bad motherboard...one bank was completely dead. I took it back to my retailer and they gave me a new one.

Make sure that you have the sticks in the same color slots, and that you have the manufacturer specified voltages and timings set in the bios.

Thanks sesdave and nickfd

I'm using the 2004 bios. I have removed the NB/SB and replaced paste with AS5, however I'm going to redo this and probably replace with Thermalright HR05 on the SB and Thermalright HR05 SLI on the NB. I need to check if the HR05 SLI will fit, as I have a Ultra 120. I will do some more tests (hopefully if I get time this week) and post the BIOS voltage settings.

Hi.

I just bought a Samsung SpinPoint T166 500GB S-ATA, problem is it doesnt work.

From before i have a 250GB samsung as boot disk connected on the sata1 port (in the cluster of three ports) and 2x500GB western digital re2's on 3 and 4 (wheres number 2 btw?)

Now this fourth disk i tried installing on the EZ raid ports, but this didnt work. On neither of the two, i fiddled around in the bios but to no avail.

Other info, it shows up as external disk 0 in bios, and during post i get a 4th master hdd error.

I'm clueless :(

I just brought a multimeter & tested the mem voltages & was suprised by the results!!!!

When set at 2.10V in the bios I get a reading of 1.90V:eek: on my multimeter!!!!
When set at 2.20V in the bios I get a reading of 2.00V:eek: on my multimeter!!!!

I check my 12V rails & the read fine at 12.20V which I thinks shows the multimeters not that out!!!!

Do you reckon the boards knaffed?

As I could run 500Mhz 4-4-4-5 2.25V with my G.Skill & now I can't get it past 980Mhz 2.4V!!!!!

2.10V = 1.90 - 1.93
2.15V = 1.97 - 1.99
2.20V = 2.03 - 2.05
2.25V = 2.06 - 2.08
2.30V = 2.10 - 2.12
2.35V = 2.15 - 2.17
2.40V = 2.18 - 2.20

I think we're facing a real problem here: what is the REAL voltage, when you enter 2.15 in BIOS and the stupid AiBooster reports 2.30V?!! How far can I go without fear of destroying my sticks?

On the other hand, when I leave AUTO in BIOS, aiBooster says happily 1.80...

please don't use that measuring spot if you don't have True RMS DMM.
You'll get 0.1-0.3v lower values..
vddr from bios = real vddr. there's no droop whatsoever.

So, if unsure about your DMM, use this spot:

I can see you have some custom cooling on your northbridge.
Just out of curiosity, what did u with the factory installed heatpipe.
Did u remove it altogether or cut it off at the middle?

It's impossible to remove without cutting it.
You might want to keep the cooling on the mosfets ;-)

The CPU voltage to be 1.325v (as I have a wk24a e6600) and that's what I remember being on the side of the Intel box. Everything else on AUTO except for PCI Express Frequency at 100 and PCI Clock Synchronization Mode at 33.33Mhz. SPD to disabled and manual timings of 4-4-4-12 and guess what it booted fine. So 4:5 ratio is working (so far!)

I do need to sort out my NB/SB cooling and then I'll try get the 4-4-4-12 at 400FSB.

It's a Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II and what I did was said above, I cut the heatpipe as close to the mosfet cooler as possible. The mosfet cooler doesn't even do anything though, never even gets warm. I tried using a small bit of heatsink (kinda like a load of ramsinks stuck together, but as a single piece) and stuck on with high qualiy thermal tape, that didn't even get warm either...

I have an unusual (I think) and very annoying problem. I can't find any info on it at all, it seems like I'm the only person in the world with this problem :(

The thing is, I can't put my computer in standby. Or better said, it goes into standby just fine but wakes up again right away, not even a small delay. As soon as the disks spin down, they spin up again. Other than that it's not crashing or hanging or anything, but it just doesn't want to be in standby.

I have tried pretty much everything I could think of.. Disabled all wake up stuff in BIOS, in windows disabled "allow this device to wake up the computer from standby" for everything, pulled out the network cables, all USB devices, removed the mouse and keyboard, disabled network devices, nothing works!
And the most annoying part is, like once in every 10 tries, it does stay in standby. WHY!!?

This is driving me insane! Does anyone have a clue what is going on and how I can get it to work properly?

Hi everyone,

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz) Socket 775 FSB1066 4MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor L640A690

Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4D) DOMINATOR

Managed to get it running at 3.6 but not Orthos stable yet.

Its also got,

2 x X1900XTX crossfire
2 x WD Raptor 150 Raid 0
2 x WD 500Gb HDD'd
Creative Fatality X-Fi Sound card
BFG PhysX
DVD's Case Enermax Modular PSU etc.

It seems to need about 1.325v V Core according to Core Temp or 1.448 in CPUz.

Temps are 41 idle with Core temp and 46 with TAT.
Load is 58-64 with Coretemp and about the same with TAT.
Memory is running 4-4-4-12 800Mhz 2.1v

I fancy water cooling when R600 arrives.

Seems to be running a little hot though so might back it down a little, 3Dmark06 is 10510 marks so its not too shabby.

It was setup as per this thread.

Any suggestions to lower the temps?

not using it but if you need it use it, but i read that if your planning to overclock everything that you dont use should be turned of or taken out in this case thats the wifi. But if your not overclocking it use it should be fine size of the ariel im sure you can find loads of wifi signals the best bios for overclocking is on the first thread read it. At this point, I would like the most stability that a board can offer with a moderate overclock and stock cooling (in a well-ventilated case).

Not sure if the DH Deluxe is the way to go at this point.

if you define a moderate overclock at 350 - 400FSB the 975 chipset is one of the best , fastest chipset clock for clock and superstable. If my board wasn't killed due to many powercuts I would still own this board and wouldn't have to deal with this buggy Nvidia chipset....

I am looking for the same 380FSB that I was getting with reasonable other settings on the P5W64, so I am considering the DH Deluxe, the Badaxe 2 or any other good board. This is not a "hijack attempt" as far as this thread is concerned. I do have the DH Deluxe in my possession, but not sure at this point that it is the best that I can get. People are happy with it and people are happy with the Badaxe 2, etc.

I don't think a profile will fix it. As soon as you reboot from setting the profile the ECC will disappear I'd imagine.

Just found something I didn't know about, when controlling the cpu fan with the mobo bios settings and you select silent mode with Vcore above auto it runs the fan at full 12v (this I already knew about and was kinda annoying..) but I just tried settings Optimal which I thought would just set 12v aswell anyway, but its actually at 5v with my cpu at 100% load in windows :D (vcore above auto obviously). This is in DC mode (don't know about PWM fans).

i just did something but not sure why it happened i had orthos beta doing stress tests cpu was 100% accordign to windows task manager i then decided what the hell i used tats full load system as well and i got up to 69 temps i closed it was scared. I checked core temp too so it was a correct reading. im running on 3333ghz. Is this normal. Considering orthos had been on for 1hour + and 55 on load was highest i saw.

04-04-2007, 12:23 PM
yeh, TAT is very stressful, much more so than ORTHOS. Intel issued a warning to enthusiasts that it can stress the cores so much that it can damage the CPU (after periods of 30mins+). ORTHOS is more stressful than anything I've ever used in 24/7 windows usage so I find no need to see TAT temps.

hardly anyones posts their settings which are STABLE. Here are my settings i have tortered it with 2x prime 95 running in torture mode 3+hours fully stable no crash and orthos beta for 2+ hours solid. I havent lowered the vcore yet or any of the other voltages main this is its stable.

heres the ram spec
Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 (TWIN2X2048-6400C4D) DOMINATOR
ram is not that good but managed to get it to 740mhz, and tuniq tower 120

any suggestions please let me know i would have gone further but i had to lower my dram frequency and dint see the point just to get it to 3.4

I'm having problems with Speedfan 4.32 - even though in the Readings tab all my fans are listed, in the Configuration's Speeds tab one is missing, so I cannot Automatically variate it or set the min and max speed. The one missing is the blowing-in fan on the left case wall, connected to one of the PWR1/PW2 sockets on the mobo (the other of the two controls the back fan, whose speed is visible to Speedfan). Any workaround? I have re-installed and reconfigured Speedfan from scratch to no avail!

What CPU have you got. I am running orthos stable @3.6 with memory 1:1 with 4,4,4,12,4 with 400 FSB with vcore 1.5v(iamount varies CPU to CPU) other settings FSB=1.3,MCH=1.65,ICH=1.2. The RAM should run DDR 800 4,4,4,12 no problem at its normal volts cos that is what it is speced to do. If you are failing to get your CPU higher than 370 try upping the MCH (NB volts) then the vcore if it still fails. I presume you have applied AS5 to your NB/SB.

-- Cpu temperature reported by PC Probe or Speedfan etc is from a sensor integrated into the motherboard itself. To get temperature readings from the on-die sensor, use "Core Temp (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=103638)" (freeware) or Everest Ultimate Edition.

A 500w PSU might be a bit light - what graphic card have you got.? If its an 8800 you probably want more juice ! Check all your connections - 24pin and 4 pin 12v. Post all your BIOS settings - In my experience setup tends to be more stable if you enter values rather than use defaults/auto irrespective of overclocking or not - especially for the memory settings on this board.

Do you guys reckon we'll ever get a BIOS update for this board from Asus that allows adjusting the CPU multiplier on unlocked Core 2 Extremes and Pentium Extreme Editions which supports Vista? It seems to be just about the hardest thing for Asus to digest, as to exactly why is well beyond me :(

Is it because the Chinese think differently, or just can't be bothered?

ONly good idea: set aside 2 hours where you don't need the computer, turn the printer on and reboot the computer, and if after 2 hours it hasn't done whatever it needed to do to finish the install, contact HP about fixing it or replacing it...

Bios doesn't care about drivers and thats where his issue lies. :)

Anyway, is it absolutely necessary to be able to boot with the printer on? If not just wait until you are in windows to turn it on.....

Also, does your printer by any chance have a card reader in it? Could be trying to boot from it.

The situation is resolved by setting USB Legacy Devices to DISABLE in BIOS instead of AUTO......but this removes DOS support for keyboard & mouse.

Well I'm now really confused. I wonder if the problem lyes with memory compatibility. I had the Firestix PC2-8000 in and I couldn't boot into windows @ 440FSB no matter what I tried. Then I took them out and inserted my spare 5400ULs and the bastard is booting right into windows @ 450FSB, however, I can't do it @ 1:1 mem divider....so I don't know if this means anything to anyone. Oh yeah, I also tried the Crucial Ballistix PC2-8000 as well no luck like the Firestix.

Additional Comments: Also, with the Firestixs and Ballistixs I can boot into windows @ 400FSB and using 1000Mhz, but I can with the the Corsair 5400ULs.

seagate 7200.10 on SATA 1

2x Raptors in RAID 0 on SATA 3 and 4, (BOOT DRIVE)

HAD LG optical on PRI-IDE

removed IDE LG optical, installed

LG optical SATA

for now its on EZ RAID SATA 1. I can't get it detected. Ditto if I put the single Seagate in there instead.

As soon as the optical is NOT plugged in (either into SATA 1 on ICH7R or NOTHING) it works fine, and I can open it's drive bay. Seagate works on SATA 1 as well.

Neither work whatsoever in EZ RAID 1.

I have read posts on ASUS forums suggesting one CAN get single drives and devices to work on the "missing" SATA 2 port from the ICH7R controller which is what the EZ RAID ports are... via the Silicon Image controller they are the missing SATA 2 split into 2 more ports.

Apparently by removing both EZ RAID jumpers, and plugging the device into EZ RAID 1, you can use it as normally. EZ RAID 2 get disabled by default. This arrangement I guess bypasses or disables the SI controller and throws control back to the ICH7R

HOWEVER, for some stupid reason I just cannot get it to work.

Unless people have other suggestions for me, I might just have to assume its a DOA port and have to RMA the whole damn thing (over one little damn bit!)

I think it is very bizarre for the port to kill the optical drive ONLY when it gets plugged into it... not even being able ot open the drive bay hmmm

I got ASUS p5w DH Deluxe with 4GB of Corsair 6400C4 (twinx modules-pairs).
Intel E6700 CPU, EVGA 8800 GTX ACS3. Seasonic m12 700W PSU. All settings in BIOS 1901 were AUTO.
I run pc for few months without problem. Few days ago I changed cooling to Scythe Infinity. When for the first time started pc it hanged after bios post. Then I managed to get to screen where I can choose to start windows in safe mode or last known good settings. But after choosing any option pc again hanged. After many tries I removed one ram and started pc (3GB)... it booted without problem, windows loaded etc. I puted ram inside again and booted also without problem (all 4GB). So I decided to run memtest3.2 (setings BIOS AUTO no OC etc.). After few minutes it gave me error. I rebooted and turned off usb legacy and start memtest3.2 again. After around 6 hours (5 PASS or more) I got 1 error. I tested each memory with memtest86+ 1.7 by itself for 1 Pass (30 minutes) and no errors. I testes one memory in all slots for 1 Pass also no errors. I set in BIOS settings like on memory: 800Mhz, 4-4-4-12 (4 write recovery like was in corsair test). voltage 2.1 and after few seconds got 2 errors in memtest86+ 1.7. I set write rec to 5 and send it again, and now it's running for 30 mins and no errors but will live it for the night. I don't knwo what to do. I don't knwo which pair to give back to replace which one is faulty ( is still got warranty form the shop where I got it). Or maybe it's my mainboard? I don't have to much time to test it. Is there any particular test I can run to make sure which ram is faulty or if I shoud RMA my mainboard?

i searched this thread and found nothing about anyone having problems with using ezraid for raid 0.

i have my two raptors in raid 0 in the orange ezraid ports and it takes about 4 or 5 reboots before the raid 0 shows up in post and lets me boot to windows. there seems to be no pattern of cold boot or warm boot to make it work. it just randomly works. i'm afraid to shut down my computer as i never know how long it will take for it to see the raid 0 again.

anyone else having this problem?

btw, using bios 1901. haven't tried the latest beta as i'm afraid to ruin my raid 0 altogether by trying a beta bios.

edit - burner is in sata 3 and storage drive in sata 4 if that helps.

Hey eastcoasthandle, with this 2004 bios I am running at
429 fsb well I will post the pic. I have been running at this since yesterday afternoon. I have been folding steady and gaming and even did some benching. When I got up this morning it is still running smooth. Now the big difference here is that my CPU voltage is turned down to 1.625 and my mem is set at 2.2. I have never clocked this high on this low of Voltage settings.
Again, for me this bios is the best yet. There has been many a horrible bios to come around the bend. I have a board that started out at bios 501. I have tried them ALL. Just to see for myself what if any differences there were in them. This 2004 bios is for me by far the best!!

I flashed 2004, seems stable, haven't done any extensive testing but so far it's like 1901 for me, but that's all good :)

I've clocked down to stock w/ EIST for the summer :p:

Yes i am using defualt settings. Dont want to overclock or anything of that nature. Its been a long time since i was hardcore into computers and so much has changed ofcourse. I also want to know if this is ideal

Did you install the drivers for AHCI when installing windows - if not you can try this to save a reinstall. I havent tried it but the thread posts say it works!
http://www.motherboardpoint.com/t110547-enabling-ahci-on-asus-p5w-dh-deluxe-after-windows-xp-home-oem-installation.html
Are you running stable yet - did you follow the guide I posted and try entering all the settings in the bios even if you are running at stock. There is a lot of information around on setting this board up - try this
thread for more info http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=112776 and this one to get lower board temps from NB/SB chips. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=492461&highlight=p5w
The E6600 is a great overclocker - Doesnt matter if you play games - it fun to have a faster propcessor for nothing!. You dont need to push it like the rest of us - once you are stable on stock try increasing FSB and see how high it will run stable with no vcore increase.

am think problem is memory voltage ! put manual 2,3V and check

Isn't it too much? I want to run with 667Mhz and standard timings 5-5-5-15. Right now I'm testing other 4gb of ram (kingston 800) on this ASUS p5w dh to make sure that it's not the mobo problem. I also testing on 4 other computers those corsair sticks, each by itself. Tomorrow will check is any got error. If not I will be totaly lost!!!

seagate 7200.10 on SATA 1

Anyone have any advice? Or just RMA

When you use the ez raid port (ich mode) and 2 drives in raid 0, it automatically sets the drive in matrix mode. What I do is use the top two ich7 slots (side by side) for raid and the lower right ich7 port (not ezraid) for my sata dvdrw.

EDIT: Reread the info. Put your extra hd on the red sata port just above left of the vid card. (jmicron port)

Dont want to have to use jmicron, and I've seen enough claims from people that what I want to be able to do is possible, that's where I'm getting all my info.

ICH7R can handle 4 SATA devices; I'm just trying to make it do so.

I just bought a second 36Gb. Raptor Hard Drive!!!! I would like to RAID 0 the two drives for my OS, what is the best way to do that on a ASUS P5W???

(I also have 2 data drives, but I will not need a RAID on these).

If I understand correctly, there are multiple ways to setup a RAID on this board.

What should I do????

On page 5-50 of my manual BigMode (JBOD) is using jumpers.....

I have tried default jumpers

One jumper in the middle (which should be the same as no jumpers as there is only one pin there)

and no jumpers

nothing allows me to use either device when plugged into EZ_Raid 1

Ok, hopefully I have a cure for your pain. Please follow these steps exactly, as they allowed me to set it exactly as you want it.

1. Power down, and place EZ-Raid jumper in center position.
2. Clear cmos. (Important as per page 5-50, If jumper is not changed upon first installation the system applies the default setting of RAID-1.)
3. Connect your two raptors on the top two ICH7 SATA ports.
4. Connect your optical drive to the orange EZ-Raid SATA port on the right hand side.
5. Do not connect your Data HD as of yet.
6. Power up.
7. Enter bios, select Advanced page -> DH Feature page -> Enable EZ Raid Mode change.
8. Reboot.
9. At message press F1.
10. Enter bios and set up as per your normal routine. (Don't forget to enable your Raid. Save and Exit.
11. Power down.
12. Connect Data HD to the remaining ICH7 SATA Port.
13. Power up.
14. You should have success, because I did. If not RMA.
15. Smile.

Tried once got nowhere.... :( Will try one more time.

already put a 2nd P5W-DH on hold at the local computer store so I can see if I can set it up on that one and then RMA my own while I'm there

Solved finally.

Somehow after countless resets I was able to get it to work if the LG SATA was NOT in the EZ_RAID 1, and the Seagate was.

I could swear I attempt a setup similiar to this near the beginning, and it resulted in being unable to detect the Seagate when it was in EZ_RAID 1

but here I am with 4 SATA devices under ICH7R control, which was my goal.

So I'm not sure how you claimed to get their SATA optical working off the EZ_RAID 1.... either you're mistaken (maybe?), or something was/is up with my board, OR something to do with LG SATA opticals maybe not being able to do it, but maybe other brand SATAs can work off that port. NOT MINE!!!

anyways thanx for the help, pretty much the only help i really got across numerous forums

Hi Guys!

I have an ASUS P5W and I am trying to setup my new dual raptors in a RAID 0 with the Intel RAID setup (as in not using the EZRAID). I create my RAID configuration, make my floppy with drivers, and boot to the Windows XP cd. Next I press F6 to go int the setup. I then insert my floppy drive and it trys to load but then it fails with the error:

file txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (512) AT LINE 1747
It gives me the same error no matter what driver I use (Sticky or original ASUS driver)

What does this mean??
So far I have tried changing out the floppy drive and changing floppy disks. Nothing has worked yet....

Help!!!!

Did you forget to setup raid in bios?

REwell

After I made the floppy disk, I went into the BIOS (not the RAID BIOS, the main bios) and went into IDE config... and changed the way SATA drives are configured to "RAID" instead of IDE.

So yes to the best of my knowledge, I enabled RAID int the BIOS

Uhm, there's one more step involved. Did you enable Raid bios? You need to go there too (Ctrl-I), and configure raid proper in that thing :)

BTW, anyone knows how to get rid of cpu fan check? I have bios 1602, couldn't find an option to do that...

Yup,

I built a RAID in the RAID BIOS

what XP did you use? an original or a mod one?

Some of the mod XP´s crash in the begin or even at the end....
Try with an original or non mod...... nlite make OS crash
in Raid configuration I tried several and all crashed in P5W
If you can try in Vista....

No Mods, original.

I think its kinda crappy if you have to make a custom XP cd just to install some RAID Drivers...

I never claimed anything. That is exaclty how I set it up. I have a Liteon drive though. Anyway, your welcome.

The newer drivers reflect ICH8 as the default driver. You need to open the txtsetup.oem file and look at the entries and change it to reflect ich7.

crazyea,

As you suggested, I replaced the scsi = iaStor_ICH8DH with scsi = iaStor_ICH7DH. After trying that it actually loaded instead of giving me an error when I pressed F6!!!!

However, In the list of drivers it lists:

"Intel(R) 82801GH/GM SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)"

Instead of what the Motherboard manual tells you to choose:

"Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)"

Ultimately it picks up my full "array" later in the install but is that ok to pick that one or should I try to find a different version of the drivers???

Man I hope so!! Because thats the one I went with!!

It picked up my Array just fine and is running my OS and Programs pretty good.
However I really can't tell a HUGE difference with the 2 raptors in RAID 0 compared to just one. Then again I really haven't tested it yet...

Soooo I guys in the end i guess the RAID driver I picked was the right one because windows recognizes my RAID or what???? Or will it show up in really crappy performance or something?.....
