Just Currious, besides me at taco who else killed their NF2 mb this weekend (yes mine was murder 1st degree, taco was guilty of manslaughter, but suicide counts too !) I beleive impuse had a loss as well.
Maybe a moment of silence on Monday to honor our dearly departed as they imbark on their jurney to the great silicon valley beyond.

Bow how did this board die? Is it possible it's just a corrupted bios? Most are bad bios and people just rma them instead getting a new bios chip.

hmmm i cought mine with a bottle of sleeping pills in its ide cable and a bottle of JD on its north bridge.hey i feel a country song commen on!
really my 3day old nf7 1.2 that does 229fsb stock 1.7vdd and 225 2.0-2-2-5 locked up and didnt reboot.all attempts of pumping its cmos stomach were fruitless.
as i was ready to call the morgue for a replacement bios it popped back up and said "HEY YOU DUMB A$$ IM ALIVE STILL!"
i dont know how or why.i tried everything a somewhat knowladgeable oc should know and do.but in the end it came down to shear "will to live" took 2-3 hours of trying but its back.
next week is a differant story.but mabey my backup 8rda will be here by then :D

well i replaced the bios chip hoping that would do it.
you really want to know what happened?
well i had finished a vdd and mem mod and was running fine.i had mem set to 3.1 and was fine ,had set vdd to 1.9 everything seamed fine.i was running memtest 86 to test fsb with mem.i checked northbridge and was cool.i remember saying i couldnt believe how cool it was.
but i let it reboot to change some setting.but i let it rest a sec at the postscreen,(you know where it stops if you change something and it says cpu info has been changed.)well no big thing i looked at it and turned around and i heard the board just shut off.completely.dammmmm i said.
well i tried to reboot no luck.i pulled the power cleared cmos and tried again.this time i recieved power but no post.
i done it all since then but i know what is wrong.
i checked the vdd while it is running(but not posting)and i only show 95mvolts where i normally would show 1.95v so i guess i burned up the vdd ic chip.the mofset is recieving 5.07v but the ic chip isnt sending a signal to set the voltage.
so in the end burned up board.:(

Bow,
those voltages on the Vdd could have been the result of the board going bad. I doubt you would have set it that high without noticing.
RMA it. I tell ya Bow, I had twp Epox that I modded. Both died.
No more mods for me I think. My Abit was like yours 215-220 without mods. I'm happy with it. Plus, even with a mod, would I be able to complte 3dmark at 225 DC?
Right now my 3dmark completion FSB is 217 DC.

yea alot of guys see us posting high 230+ fsb but it is really hard to run 3d benches at those speeds.
my epox is running 227 dual bank and benching.but that is a special board.my baby.
the best test by far is memtest86..if you make a boot disc ,it runs at startup and if it passes all the tests.....it will run 3d benches with no problem.
yea i got a rma and shipping back today.

Man....remind me to keep you guys the hell outta my lab:D The pile of dead hardware surrounding you guys is staggering;)
To be honest, I've only modded my own NF7 to a gentle 1.825 vdd. So far it has been running a few weeks now 24/7 either gaming or folding.
I've now just completed my 10th system based on the NF7 (9 client builds plus my own) and all would do 200+ without any mods at all. In that regard, I don't think I'll be recommending to vmods to anyone not ready to accept the risk. All the NF2 boards seem a tad fragile when it comes to modding.
BTW, I was at a LAN party last week with my gaming system. That lead to 8 of the NF7 builds I just wrapped up. These boards make for wicked gamers.

Hey Major, good to see ya again! Got your new hardware yet?
Unfortunately, I think you can add k1114 to the list. I heard he was trying to redo his vdd mod and the soldering iron slipped. :( Makes me wonder about the advisability to trying to redo it (even though I have everything I need now).

Aaahhh, you guys are scarin' me. ;) My 8RDA+ is still pluggin' along fine, but since I did the vdd mod, my PSU voltages all seem to be way lower. I even added a 2nd PSU, a 350 watt Enermax, to power all the fans, drives, and the floppy connector on the 9700 Pro, but the lines are all still low. :( I'm thinking seriously of un-doing it, and see how she runs stock, but with the 2nd PSU still hooked up.

spaceman, are you sure your rails are really running low? I'd check them with a DMM if you haven't. Just for example, MBM reads my 5v rail right now at 4.87, yet when I test a molex connector with my DMM, it reads at 5.03v. So it's not really a PSU voltage issue, it's more likely error in the readings from the chips on the mobo.

So it's not really a PSU voltage issue, it's more likely error in the readings from the chips on the mobo. That could easily be the case then. I don't have any multi-meter, and I've been going by the BIOS readings. My +5v is 4.86, +12 is 11.89, and +3.3 is around 2.8. I also got similar readings in SANDRA, although not quite as bad. I've tried 3 different PSU's, that had decent readings even in duallies, so I just assumed the mobo was going flaky. Thanx for straightening me out. :) I might have to get a DMM and learn how to use it. ;)

They are definitely worth having. And you don't have to spend a fortune on one. I just bought a cheapie for about $18. Tested it vs my Dad's Tektronics $80 DMM and the readings weren't off from each other more than about .02v on the 5v rail and about .04v on the 12v rail.

You guys are hardcore ;)
I almost feel guilty that my 845PE mobo still works after 4 or 5 months with a vmem mod and running at 3.8gHz...
Yeah, Yeah I know. Go back to the Intel section...

I just got my 3rd NF7-S but haven't put it in a system yet, think I'm going to give it to son-in-law and order a v2.0 now. I just ordered a R9800 Pro from CompUsa expected 4/1

I think the BIOS may be a big problem. Somthing like a dual BIOS or a BIOS Saviour may help prevent this terminal problem. Unless you fry your MoBo to hell.

Asus A7N8X , was clearing the cmos with needle nose pliers and took off a small resistor next to the jumper i tried for 5 hours to get it to post again, soldered the resistor back on bought a new resistor but nothin oh well it gave me an excuse to buy a new abit 1.2 :)
I also lost a very important loved one, my 450/410 clocking Radeon 9700 pro :(
Major Slaughter is right AS3 IS VERY STRONG...in fact AS3 is STRONGER than the BGA the core is attached with!
i now have a heatsink with a r300 core attached too it, and a 9700 pro with an r300 core missing i wish my digicam was working properly cause this you have to see to believe

I killed her ! I broke off a mosfet taking it out of my case, the heatsink I had on the memory reg cirutit hit the hd cage and took off the top of the chip. I didn't even hit it that hard.
I'm not a happy camper right now !:(
I do have a new friend in my life ! I hope she finds it in her heart to stay with me through my times of need.

Man, that is a bummer. So it actually cracked the mosfet itself? Wonder if there's any way to fix it? You know, maybe buy a dead one cheap and steal a mosfet off it and try resoldering. Any possiblity, or too hard to do?
I am saddened by your loss...but we must find the strength to carry on...hopefully your new friend can help cushion the blow...

Hey WildKard !
You know the first thing I did once I got the NF7-S up and going was to burn the 2 extra bios chips !!!!! I couldn't take any chances after I killed my back up A7N8X. I also tried the bios chip from the A7N8X but it wouldn't work.
It will be on its way to you on moday ! I'm going to send it through the postal service and not FedEx, I don't know if my work would notice a FedEx charge to Canada or not.

Nerver seen one with such a suiting name as you Major Slaughter!
But the more I read I know that I am a lucky bastard, I have done everything wrong, to high voltages at almost every place in my case, broken parts loose from my 9700pro and only glued them back (the smal resistors(?) between the mems) fumble with my soldering iron so there was big drips at my card (used needle to get the most of it off, and its not one time).
(my voltages: Cpu: 2.2V, Vdd: 2.5V, Gpu:1.83V, Vref:1.5V, VDDQ: 3.45V (directly from 3.3V in ATX, becuse something didn“t workout with my VDDQ mod and i got no current att all, so i soldered strait at the measuring point), VDD:3.33V. Havent done Vdimm mod because i am a bad solderer)
Maybe i should stop when I havent killed something yet, and go out and bye a lotto ticket.

Ok had to share this, last friday spilt a glass of water I was using to fill my wc setup all over my NF7-S mb. Took me all weekend with a blow dryer to get it working again. Thought I might have killed it too.
Then today I took back the BFG 5600 256mb and got my R9800pro. couldn't wait to get home to get things cooking. Opened my computer room door only to find my NF7-S not running and the familure smell of burnt up componets ! My PC P&C 510w has died, probably due to lightning from storms today.
This sucks !!!!!!
Finally got R9800pro up and going using a backup Antec truepower 550. I hope it lasts long enough to post some good 3dmark scores ! hehe
