I understand the usefulness of the For Sale and Services forum; they allow us to get rid of those things of value we no longer need or offer services so we can spend more on components.
But what about those components we no longer need, but have a somewhat trivial worth? Things that aren't really worth selling, but at the same time are difficult to simply throw out. As often as not I think these items end up as donor parts in a secondary (or tertiary, or quaternary...), but they could be put to better use: trading in for equally valueless things we would never purchase ourselves, but would gladly accept in trade for our item(s).
I will add here that I know I could technically put up a for sale post with all my junk and offer it for the price of shipping or state that I would accept trades, but if we had a section specifically for trades I think we would see more activity for this kind of thing and that we would all benefit from it. This would occur on two fronts:
1. Because it is a For Sale section and not a trading section this particular form of junk elimination is under represented here.
2. By making a "trading" section here at XS, we encourage a more interactive and friendlier forum community.
I'm sure if you really think about it you'll realise that you have an old heatsink/processor/etc. that you should have thrown out months ago that you would gladly get rid of in exchange for some ram/fans/etc. for a secondary system in your home.
Plus, everyone's heard of the "one red paperclip" story... think about how much cooler it would be to turn your "one stick of PC133" into a BlueGene/L.
