I've got all my parts together for my build, but I can't seem to mount this HSF.

I attached the backplate and the mounting brackets in there. However, the hooks on the heatsink don't seem to reach down far enough to hook the holes in the brackets. I'm not sure if my HSF is bent or what's going on exactly, but I can't seem to make it work. :(

Should it take a lot of force? I don't want to mess this build up.

Thanks.

While I am not familiar with this particular heatsink or socket (new to Intel, dont have my stuff yet), is it possible that the hooks are positioned upside down? I had a similiar problem on my AMD HS, the hook fell out and took me a little bit to figure out which way it was suppose to go.

You could always call the manufacturer up, and ask them as well.

Thanks, I tried calling but the tech lady is on vacation.

Put the sink on , start bottom left corner one clip , right upper corner one clip wile pushing the heatsink with one hand firmly on the chip.

push left top clip in and right bottom clip......done :)

it's gonna be tight, thats right......goodluck

There's like 3/4cm from the clip to the hole in the bracket. is that how much distance there should be?

OK, well I used brute force, and thanks for the suggestion Rol-Co. That worked out great. =)

nice to see it working for you too

yeah, it needs some BRUTE force at the final step (where you want to connect the 4 final clips).

glad it's working for you,

yup...i made a futile attempt to bent the hooks...but the best way is to use brute force on the lever of the hooks, rather than the hooks themselves.

I had to use needle nose plyers on mine. This is the only thing I do not like about this heatsink (the mounting).

i think its so hard to do in order to have lots of pressure
not saying its the BEST way to add pressure,
but bending the clips with pliers, would that not result in less pressure/less performance?

i just worked by clipping in the opposing diagonal clips (upper left then bottom right) and it worked great! Needed some pressure, but wasn't too much.
