EACH GeForce 7950 GX2 boards still costs around $600 plus but on August the 9th Nvidia will officially release a new driver that supports a Quad SLI configuration, along with the list of verified motherboards and accompanied with an extensive do-it-yourself guide.

Maybe they'll allow SLI on Intel at the same time!
I'm still not sure if my P5B Deluxe supports GX2s or not.

So far you still need an nforce sli chipset to use two of them. The Inq did not read for comprehension.
Once you have identified that your motherboard is compatible with the GeForce 7950 GX2, check to ensure that it is an NVIDIA SLI-Ready motherboard. NVIDIA SLI-Ready motherboards include: NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI, nForce 570 SLI, nForce4 SLI, and nForce4 SLI Intel Edition.

Waits for the inevitable questions - I got a quad sli setup but I'm having problems with it, could it be my £10 psu?

 So according to TheInq each 7950GX2 stil costs 600 dollar plus??
the first bit a journalist learns is verification and 1 minut of looking should have shown them that u can get 7950GX2s the US for 550 dollars.
ok only 50 dollars less but common cant theinq check prices before saying such stuff.
in europe u can get em for less then 500 euro (i know euro to dollar its more expensive but stil).
yeah i know its a lil detail i nag about but theinq makes ot many mistakes wich they could have easily detected and prevented.

Hahahaha all of a sudden, no one doubts the INQ. This time it does seem legit though. I mean its one way to kick ATI in the face since they can't really retaliate with anything...yet.

Completely right. And you can get it even cheaper for 520$ so its 160$ less for Quad SLI than INQ says.

160$ less is nothing compared to required monitor for quad-sli. 24" is a must to really enjoy nice performance boost from dual-sli.

Yes but new drivers hopefully will increase Quad SLI performance in lower res also. So...
And 24" DELL costs 860$ or smthn like that. so 860$ or 700$.. :p:
Give me 160$ and I'll stop argueing with you :D

The GX2 is a very strong single card solution and two should overpower the Crossfire until ATI can develop a quad solution.
As we know the next gen cards will bump up performance some and catch the quads but I think it will overtake them on the high end overclocked.
For the record, The GX2 I tested is three times dead and alive once again.

You mean quad SLI right?
Anyway that's not really true, most 21in CRT's can push 2048 x 1536, which is plenty to see performance improvement with Quad SLI on current gen games.
Also you are forgetting about SLI AA modes. One could run 16x or 32x AA on a 17in LCD at 1280x1024 and show performance improvement over a standard SLI setup.
Finally, new generation games that will hit the shelves in the next few months will most certainly put a heavier load on GPUs , so again it will be beneficial.

on the beta drivers running my quad sli .. gaming at 2560x1600 .. nvidia says the sweet spot is 8x aa and 16x af .. but i get around 60-70 fps with dips into the 40s .. kinda sucks
also i run HL2 at 32xaa and 16x af .. so beautiful .. too bad i only got 12 fps
o and i only get 8900 in 3dmark 06 with quad sli .. while guys with sli'd 7900gts hit 10500

I'm hoping support for the 975 chipset is there. They may not boast it, but it sounds like its very possible now.

maybe the 7900 sli beats you but id like to see the 7900 sli against your setup at the settings you mention above....

well the guy with the 7900gt sli had an 2.6 ghz x2 .. mine is closer to 2.8 .. maybe the resolution isnt high enough for quad sli to come into play ?
