...integrated on the same chip as the low end mainstream RV550 vid card...with blu ray and hd-dvd decoding and a bunch of other features...the first time avivo has taken an integrated hardware form:

Don't confuse RV550 with the much more powerful RV560 (X1650XT) and RV570 (X1950PRO)...the RV550 is just a codename for an RV516 (X1300) chip with UVD feature.

merge :)

i first wanna see this thing in action before making a decision.

btw this chip will be added cause the low-end ATI cards arent strong enough todo HD stiff in 1080P.
so to be short we wont see it in any cards that are capable todo that stuff.
wil be nice to see what this chip adds in price.

It's not full blu-ray/HD-DVD support, it's "worst case", meaning lowest quality HD-DVD/Blu-Ray support on GPU. You know, those discs that reviewers have said doesn't look much better than regular dvd?

"brentpresley The key question is this:
Is DRM built into the HW? "
says right on that 2nd slide drm, asside from that it's vista ready which pretty much seems to mean it's loaded with the leagal infection we call drm...
yay...

Well I've never seen one play in real life, but this looks like a significant improvement:

no I think worst case means "maximum possible data" ie, can handle anything bluray can throw at it.

Otherwise, why even announce it? "yeah we can handle blu ray. no not at full res. no not with sound. no not full speed. look we can barely render a picture alright? leave us alone...":stick:

Some movies are using a much crappier video compression method, namely current/early blu-ray discs that, while they look better than standard dvd, are not up to par technologically speaking.

It's due to current problems with early discs, especially in the blu-ray department, as dual-layered discs aren't working properly.
